old salt wrote: Mon Dec 11, 2023 8:52 pmProlonged losing streaks tend to generate poor sportsmanship. Army FB deserved the CinC Trophy this year & Army lax deserves their high ranking. I wish Navy FB & Lax had the same institutional support that Army has. I'm not bitter like you. I do root for Army when not playing Navy.
Not bitter:

old salt wrote: Mon Dec 11, 2023 11:34 am Yep. Army's loaded with several key 5th year covid turnbacks, just like Army & Air Force football teams.
Apparently nobody at SecDef cares about that anymore.
GTFO
Legit question. Will Army continue 5th year redshirt turnbacks after covid classes are gone ? If so, I hope Navy follows suit.
I'm also happy for the Army FB Cadet who put in a year of enlisted service & was allowed to come back.
Good for him & USMA for giving him that chance. His story played well on tv.
you are clueless
What have I got wrong ? Be specific.
All good.

Being in the Patriot League, makes it rather challenging to schedule OOC games depending on your assigned bye week. Adding AF would further limit who they could get on their schedules.

The Patriot League needs one more team and to break it in half. They are putting themselves at a disadvantage in growth, IMO.
A fraudulent intent, however carefully concealed at the outset, will generally, in the end, betray itself.

He's a little small, so he needs to be crafty and quick as a dodger (and he is). He is very skilled and is makes him a very effective passer as a dodger. The evolution of his game compares favorably with that of Joey Sessa.
Man,
were they ever wrong about Plunkett.

Great win by Army in OT.

Army was more athletic than Syracuse.

Doc - perhaps your first post on the Army board in your numerous elsewhere? Welcome......

Regardless agree on athleticism and 'cuse just wasn't disciplined - tried low percentage shots even when they had the lead. Army remained disciplined - despite way too many unforced errors - and had the chance in OT when it counted.

Pondering a pun with Army Mule (mascot) and Syracuse's Mule missing the open net in OT to give possession back to Army for the win. . . but nah.

Great OT win for the Black Knights.

I saw Army/Rutgers at West Point last year. Was immediately drawn to Plunkett - who's that guy? He had an absurd CT on a ride. And a number of points. Legit first team AA potential. One of my favorite players in college lacrosse.

Didnt see the game last night , just some of the rutgers game .Please dont say these men go to army to play lax , they go for more imp reasons , grt education , military commitment , grt foundation for a successful future . Having said that , their sticks are excellent and they compete with the big boys in the top ten .Good for them , so deserving of any success they have

Well...in 1958 Army shared the National Title with Johns Hopkins. They shared because they unilaterally dropped Hopkins from their schedule after losing to Hopkins in1957 and knowing they would quite likely lose again in 1958.
The big bad Black Knights were afraid of two 150 lb Blue Jays named Billy Morrill and Mickey Webster.

Great to see Army at the #1 spot! They've got a very well constructed team that reminds me a bit of the Yale team that won the national championship in 2018. It may be tough for the Black Knights to hold onto the #1 ranking if a team like Notre Dame or UVA were to go undefeated in the ACC but happy to see Army do so well and would enjoy seeing them make a deep run in the NCAA tournament.

sounds like hopkins kept their blueprint around re: scheduling opponents they didn't think they could beat.

I could be wrong and I should remember but maybe not in light of another thread, but didn’t Army share another preNCAA championship right before the first NCAA tournament, which was 1971?
