Flashmobs

Post by cradleandshoot »

I think this is a topic worthy of discussion on this forum. It is turning into a very effective tactic for thieves. It is amazing how much merchandise can be stolen in a few short minutes by a rather well organized group of crooks. Is this the new normal that high end department stores will just have to live with? Will these department stores be forced to "buzz" their clientele in?? This is a very effective method for robbing stores. The best possible solution for prosecuting these criminals might be to implement RICO laws that make the legal penalties for these crimes not worth the reward. I bet there are a lot of mob bosses wondering why didn't think of this tactic decades ago? It is quite brilliant in its simplicity, overwhelm, get the goods and get the hell out of dodge. I don't have the slightest clue how to stop this type of smash and grab. It must suck to be the police knowing there is diddly squat they can do to prevent these crimes.
I use to be a people person until people ruined that for me.

If I were young and not planning on college or a skilled trade, I would entertain Flashmobbing as a career choice. No shortage of available participants and I would act as the Flashmob Pimp, and I get a cut of everything stolen, since I am fronting of the all intel and organization. I would certainly have some Jeffery Epstein blackmail dirt on those on my team, to make sure they do not undercut me or rat me out. I would then open an Amazon Online store on the dark web, and sell the obtained merch for a significant profit. Seems like a rather lucrative career choice.
A fraudulent intent, however carefully concealed at the outset, will generally, in the end, betray itself.

Sounds like a damn good plan, youth, I like it.
I'd likely go the Rocknmob route though just
because I think it would be less stressful and
a whole lot more fun.

Wouldn't be surprised to see more stores go back to a Service Merchandise setup. Although if the flash mobs get into the warehouse section...

Any solutions to flashmobs from the posters above?

It’s too expensive to use the RE to hood excessive inventory through cycle. But I do miss the whole Wheel of Fortune/Service Merchandise thing

For high end stores maybe screening and buzzing people in may be on the horizon. There is no silver bullet solution. The deterrence factor for criminals use to be the prospect of spending some time in jail. I believe many of these young future career criminals are 16 and younger. No fear factor involved. If you ever do get caught all the yutes get will be an appearance ticket to show up to court. When you have no fear of any consequences for your actions this type of crime becomes a game and a competition for various criminals. If I had tried such a stunt when I was16 jail would have been the safest place for me. My old man would have beaten me to within an inch of my life.

David Shafer, the former chairman of the Georgia Republican Party, turned his mug shot into a profile photo on the social media platform X, just hours after surrendering to authorities in Georgia. He faces charges alongside former President Trump for his role in an alleged fake elector scheme to overturn the 2020 presidential election results in the state.

Jail records show he was booked early Wednesday morning and released.

Shafer posted his mug shot on X, formerly known as Twitter, with the text “Good morning! #NewProfilePicture,” and changed his profile picture to the mug shot.

Shafer faces a total of eight counts, including impersonating a public officer, forgery, false statements and attempting to file false documents. Shafer was one of 16 pro-Trump individuals who met in the state Capitol on Dec. 14, 2020, and signed documents purporting to be Georgia’s presidential electors, despite President Biden winning the election.

Shafer is one of three fake electors charged in the sweeping indictment. Some of the other fake electors reportedly accepted immunity plea deals.

In addition to allegedly helping organize the Dec. 14 meeting in the Georgia Capitol, Shafer is also accused of lying to Fulton County, Ga., prosecutors during an April 25, 2022, interview by saying he didn’t call the other fake electors to tell them of the state Capitol meeting and indicating that a court reporter was not present at the meeting.

Shafer is among three co-defendants in Georgia’s case seeking to move their cases to federal court.

A handful of the 19 co-defendants charged have surrendered so far. Fulton County District Attorney Fani Willis set a deadline of Friday at noon to surrender.

Trump has said he will surrender Thursday.
