Hey doc t, what do these two blowout games have in common...I think it is something but I can't put my finger on it?
I dont know....does it have to do with clubs?
The Blondes have more fun tour - leaving one school going to another?

humming "the Load out"......But the band's on the bus, And they're ready to go
We've got to drive all night and do a show in Herndon???? Or Detroit, I don't know, We do so many shows in a row
And these teams all look the same

George: Thank you UAO...doc t come on down!

UAO: George what is the first question?

Badlands' Analysis: Both coaches being COY recipients may be the better correct answer (like on the SAT, even if your Mommy pays someone else to take it for you). One of the coaches didn't go directly from one VA Public school to the other.

thanks for the scores... to answer your question...I think they could likely go 4-0 to start the season...building hopes of winning the county...but, then ...consecutive losses to West Spring, Langley, Fairfax, Herndon will bring them back down a bit....If they were to win one or two of those, then, yes, the Generals could/would be contenders.

Either way (contender/pretender), its good to have a second relevant team in Arlington.

Haha...not you doc t sorry a touch too much obscuration, I think the Blonde One is plotting the Purple's Time Is Gonna Come when the Hornets get to show them that parents don't make the best athletic directors or those [Since you liked the way-back machine Mark Goodson-Bill Todman reference] with Silly Putty spines!

Woodson ventured across the river to Maryland and that is good for experience but never good for wins! Holton Arms was as good as advertised with an amazing midfield that scored 12 of 13 goals and the other was a perfect feed from one of those middies. Last year, they hung 16 on us and it wasn't close, this year gave a big effort to climb back into the game late in the second. Already down two starters still missing from the squad, a Cav ran her head into one of Holton's swinging sticks and she had to leave the game, luckily the refs were all about letting the girls play so no call particularly after the Cavs had scored three in a row to make it 10-10. Luckily, they were able to see the fouls to get Holton two FPS and find a yellow card against the Cavs Coach after objecting to another swinging stick missing the head of a Cav so it ended 10-13. You cross the river and you can't expect too many calls to go your way as those private school girls should get the calls to get into the best colleges too as we found out this past week. St. Catherine's came up from Richmond and playing back-to-back the Cavs pulled the starters up 3-0. Everyone got to play and that experience hopefully will help the Cavs down the line as the half ended 6-9. The Cavs brought back the starters in the second half and picked it up to get even at 13-13 but ran out of gas and it ended 13-15. Two losses like last year and that one ended OK.

I had a feeling that you were talking bout the just for men/sun-in/clairol man....only thing I am not sure about, is, Herndon doesn't play Chantilly this season...AFAIK. But if a good record counts, with some liberal transitive property applied, then I agree.

Ah the good loss(es)...I remember when Checko/Kluegs and their Robo teammates had those same lessons. Get beat by SSSA, Milton, Loyola Academy (ILL) then take it out on the VA Publics....look out for Woodson as they will be ready to lay some pain on whoever gets in their way...

A great time to report on week 1 in the Liberty district:
  • Yorktown 18 - Centreville 3
    Yorktown 20 - Chantilly 4
    Yorktown 16 - Sidwell Friends 11
  • McLean 6 - Fairfax 10
    McLean 7 - Marshall 14
  • Herndon 18 - TJ 5
    Herndon 21 - Justice 10
  • South Lakes 11 - W. Springfield 14
    South Lakes 15 - Lee 3
  • Langley - No games (still practicing at the underground Nike test facility in Great Falls??)
Liberty Ranking:
1) Langley - returns Liberty POY, still a level above the others
2a) Yorktown - strong young talent with good IQ, good result vs. SF, may have thin bench due to injury
2b) Herndon - returns many form last year's 6A state tourney team. looked great indoors (10 goals vs. BTJ is a watch item)

Note: the above is a true toss-up at this point. YT vs. Herndon on 4/9 could be Liberty game of the season.

4) Washington-Lee - future Liberty conference name sake is much improved. Could get a Regional spot barring upset.
5) South Lakes - Hung in with a much improved West Springfield team. Could surprise W-L.
6) McLean - Best GK in the district, lost offensive talent and feeder from last year. But season is early and GK will keep them in many games.

Yorktown visiting West Springfield tonight should be a good early season measuring stick for where both teams are at and looks to be one of the better games on the VA Public GLAX slate this week.

In defense of Herndon, from what I have seen and heard the sheriffs are improved this year and have some new (freshmen?) goal scoring talent. (insert new sheriff in town joke here) :ugeek:

They may not win a lot of games, but don't be surprised if BTJ puts up some scores like this that make you take a second look :o

I cant recall who was POY in Liberty..If it was C. Smith, then she is not returning...She is at the Hill Academy in Ontario

That doesnt deflate the Laxons.....they are still the team to beat

Excellent call Dr. Tact.

Took the trip over to Rolling Road tonight to watch the battle of unbeatens as West Springfield hosted Yorktown in the Spartans' regular season home opener. Unfortunately, with the construction at WS, it was not the home opener for the snack bar, as some warm Chik-Fil-A would've helped on a night that got progressively colder.

The Pats jumped out to a 2-0 lead early on, and then took advantage of a questionable yellow card to tack on another one to make it 3-0. (It wasn't the difference in this game, but let's just say the officials looked to still be in pre-season form at times throughout the night :( ).

One thing that was evident is that Yorktown had an overall team speed advantage, but the Spartans seemed to have a plan to slow the game down and neutralize that as much as possible. It worked, as the teams then traded goals to make it 4-1, before Spartans got it to 5-3 late in the half with the momentum and the ball on attack, but the Yorktown defense was solid all night, and they took advantage of a turnover and their speed to score on the break late in the half to make it 6-3 at intermission.

The Pats struck quickly early in the 2nd session with three goals out of the gate, to open up a 9-3 lead, but the Spartans then found some footing on the attack and got 4 out of the next 6, to make it 11-7, before Yorktown decide to slow the pace themselves as the two teams traded late goals to get the final to 12-8.

Game was probably even more competitive than the final score, as each team seized momentum at times. Yorktown looks like they could be as good as we think they could be (Top 5), Coach Tran has them coached up well (they did not make many mistakes tonight) and their ability to win draws and then use their team speed in the midfield (both on attack and on the ride) and in their cuts to goal gave WS problems. Their defense was stout, as their speed took away the fast break and forced the Spartans to run a settled offense. They only had 5 dressed for the bench, so as someone mentioned earlier, depth may be a issue, especially with a team that can get into a track meet with them.

West Springfield is definitely up and coming, as Coach P had 4 freshmen logging heavy minutes, and they rewarded him with 5 of the 8 WS tallies coming from them, including 4 from #23 (including a beautiful free position from the 20-yard line, where she caught everyone napping and threw it in from long distance :o ) Their defense seemed to pick up in intensity throughout the game and kept the Pats within striking distance most of the evening. The Spartans may not yet be challenging the Top 5 like Yorktown, but they didn't look out of place as a Top 10 team.

I clearly didn't read the UAO 2019 Preview very carefully. Brings the Saxons slightly down to earth, but as you said, still the team to beat.

VALaxer - great call on Yorktown vs. West Springfield tonight. I can vouch it was a competitive game with lots of energy in the stands for the home team. Hadn't seen the Spartans play in 2 seasons, and this is good young team on the rise. How about that FP goal from WAY beyond the 12m! Although it was a direct FP and the YT GK was out of the crease, I don't think the refs even cleared a shooting lane. Good IQ on that player!

Coach Tran is the real deal. She's earned the respect in the lax community and is very vocal. Its not her fault, but based on the Ytown game I witnessed last season, her reputation and volume earns the Pats a lot of favorable calls.
