Quite the challenging slate. I don't think we'll have any strength of schedule concerns this season.

And your point is?

We HAVE to play Dartmouth, Harvard, and Brown. Hobart is a traditional rival. St Bonaventure is a regional 1st year program trying to get started. Nobody's claiming a top 5-10 schedule, but it should be enough to warrant an at-large if the record is good enough.

Patriot League Loyola has the same problem - locked into a schedule with at least three unranked teams.

Syracuse has Hobart too. And Colgate. We ALL can't be in the ACC.

Ask the players and coaches at Hobart and Cornell if the game isn't a match-up of real importance. The most played rivalry in lacrosse is always a brawl.

I wouldn't take any of those Ivy games for granted, even my alma mater.

This little snippet from US Lacrosse Mag says Cornell has "what could be the toughest schedule in the nation." I don't disagree.
"WHAT WE’RE READING
Cornell unveils what could be the toughest schedule in the nation, with matchups against Albany, Yale, Syracuse, Penn State, Towson and Notre Dame."

Don't have to ask. I was one of those guys for Cornell and played on Boswell. "The World's Largest Outdoor Insane Asylum"

Never meant to imply either unimportance or uncompetitiveness. I'm sure Syracuse feels the same. Just referencing ranked vs unranked opponents.

Ha! Trying to set me up to jinx my guys. Not taking the bait. How about this instead:

"I'm worried about our youth in goal and the backline. All those Harvard blue chippers will rise up and punch us in the mouth."

Oh wait. You meant Dartmouth... ;)

" ...and that the coaching upgrades and morale boost from commitment to a fabulous indoor facility will... etc." confused1

The initial schedule has off-dates and travel and tough teams in cold weather. Lehigh on a Sunday after Geneva in February on a Friday... Albany on a Saturday followed by PSU on a Friday, followed by Towson on a Sunday and Yale 6 days later. Ranked, or unranked, the travel and recovery time could be challenging. The Big Red's depth this year should help things.

OK, Joewillie78 is back in the house, and I would first like to thank whoever was responsible for rescuing the best forum for talking lax on the internet.

Of course its been another long year as a Jet Fan (although I do think we finally have our franchise QB), but enough about that and onto my favorite time of year , and of course my favorite sports team, and that of course is Cornell Lax.

If ever this team was finally going to hoist the trophy on Labor day, this is the team, and next year of course (as Teat has 2 more years), that will finally do that. In my opinion, they have the BEST player in college Lacrosse, and I think they have the DEEPEST team in College Lax. They are LOADED at all positions, and they add some incredible freshmen in Lombardi, Ierlan etc. Really, the only important starter we lost was our goalie, but Bullen, when he filled in was outstanding, and Ierlan was one of the best high school goalies in the country.

I saw the schedule and it is phenomenol. Congrats to Coach Milliman for putting together a brutal slate, but hey, if you are claiming to be one of the top 5 teams in the country (which I truly believe they are), then you schedule all comers.

I cant wait for the opener against the Bart in Feb. and then reclaiming my spot on the 50 at Schoellkopf watching one of the best Lax programs in the country.

To add(on) to joewillie78 comments... while it would be nice to hold the trophy on Labor Day it would be sweeter to hold it on Memorial Day first!

Also while we lost some key seniors, IMO the one that will be most difficult to replace is our lock-down defernder -- Jake P who was outstanding during his career and was the heart of the D and from a distance a solid leader of the squad. That being said we have talent in all places including D and with the schedule including multiple games with short rest were going to need contributions up and down the roster. Plus we have 5 FO specialist who should give the new Yalie something to consider.

Looking forward to a great 2019 campaign

joe willie - agreed, on paper the team appears very strong. And pretty well balanced.

I think, however, you forgot about one critically important loss to graduation - Pulver. He was a real "gamer." A rock for the rest of the D to rally around.
I think Coach Stevens really has his work cut out for him. The team returns Wallace (who certainly outperformed expectations last season; he did very well) and an off-ball defender, Doria. 'Need a solid third starter and a fourth in a close d rotation.
The close d will have to mature fast if the team expects to play with elite (top 10) D1 offenses. Right out of the box, a loaded Lehigh offense and an even more high-powered Penn State offense...followed by Albany and Yale. I was at the quarters in Annapolis last spring vs. Maryland. Don't forget how Maryland's offense looked surgical for most of the afternoon against what was a stronger Cornell defense.

Offseason treat for Cornell fans.... Syracuse v. Cornell 1988 at Schoellkopf.

Cornell had had Syracuse's number the previous two matches in 1987....particularly so in their famous blowout in the Dome.

My favorite of all of Cornell's squads...the 87-88 Goldstein era. Enjoy.

Agree. One of the best on-ball defenders in the country. Just look at what he did to Morrill (1 goal in garbage time, 1 unwarranted assist), Solomon (1 goal after a face-off scramble), and Kelly (1 goal from downtown for the Tewey finalist) in his last three games.

Indeed. :D
Knew what the outcome would be against the undefeated 88 team but didn't remember this one as being such a lopsided affair.
McCabe ranks real high on my list of all time favorite Cuse Dmen, The freshman did a pretty darn good job on Goldstein, who was anything but a slouch, in this one.

 Hey, I can't help the final score. It's a treat to watch Moran's old teams, yes.

(I already uploaded the 87 thrashing in the Dome for you....best of luck to Cornell this season)
