Re: Cornell 2019

Late in the third and Cornell has cut Lehigh's lead down to one-goal again. No shut-off of Teat. Bullen in goal seems pretty locked in now, and Cornell has had some beautiful assisted goals. Cornell clearing very well and the defense has come up with some very nice caused turnovers. The only real a...

Re: Ivy League 2019

These sort of posts just make someone look foolish. I had good intentions of posting this before the Cornell/Hobart game tonight, but life and the day job interfered. Here are my forecasts for tomorrow's Ivy League action. I had Cornell as an 18-15 winner tonight, so I was off by a goal or two. (Pi...

Re: Harvard 2019

Thanks, MDlaxfan76. UMass always plays Yale tough -- beat them in 2017 and gave them their closest game in the NCAA tournament last year until the final game vs. Duke -- and I am sure they always get up for their "in-state rival" Harvard. I was doing the (very unscientific) "look at t...

Re: Cornell 2019

Orfling, upon reflection, a more interesting thing to watch might be how Cornell performs with a one day turn-around. Personally, I think that the Big Red's physical conditioning and readiness can adapt and overcome this disadvantage. This does, however, add another dimension to the game. For sure....

Re: Cornell 2019

Hi Orfling! I'm not sure I qualify as Cognoscenti, but my guess is that they will try it. As I've noted before on this board, it's a more complex manouver than simply a "faceguard" to have it work. From watching the highlights Hobart game, it seems like Mr. Teat's improvement over the sum...

Re: Harvard 2019

Anybody watch Harvard's loss vs. UMass? UMass is a team that never gets a lot of attention but is "low key good" as they say. Wondering if this was a great UMass performance, an underwhelming Harvard one, or something in the middle.

Re: Cornell 2019

+1. I think PSU had only 1 FO win vs Ierlan that was an actual win, not a violation. And almost all those TD wins were against a guy that's a top FO man. Yale's big soph Dman, Fink, may have been exposed today. PSU often played Yale's finisher Gaudet with a short. Bad mistake. Too easy for him to p...

Re: Yale 2019

Nice job by Villanova -- tough and disciplined today. Yale has plenty to work on going forward (and will be facing an extremely tough non-conference opponent in Penn State next week). In addition to some stretches during which they struggled to generate good shots against the zone, Villanova won a l...

Re: Ivy League 2019

Awesome job, TLD. Your previews are great. A couple of notes on your Yale discussion: 1. On attack, in fall ball and in the two scrimmages a first-year player, Matt Brandau out of Boys' Latin, got a lot of time and seemed to connect well with Morrill. Andy Shay has never hesitated to give first-year...

Re: Yale 2019

Yes...Yale looked good. I counted 8-0 in the first quarter and then 11-4 in the second (?), then had to leave. I was interested to see #31 Fake against one of the best attack in DII from Merrimack, #6. Fake did not let #6 do anything the few times Merrimack had the ball. I noticed freshman #41 star...

Re: PENN STATE 2019

Penn State lax ("hey, did you know Chris Hogan played lacrosse at Penn State?") looking great this year! I'm expecting to see them crack the top 5. Happy to see Grant Ament return at such a high level -- great player and fun to watch. It's early yet, but Penn State, Loyola, and Towson all ...

Re: Navy Lacrosse 2019

Nice opening 13-8 win for the Mids over Vermont. Mids mostly in control throughout, although Vermont had a run in the fourth to cut Navy's lead to 3 before the Mids put it away with a couple of really nice goals. A few thoughts: Great to have Ryan Kern -- he was lights out. The young defense played ...

Re: VIRGINIA Lacrosse

MD, just have seen the news -- best to you and your entire family on the loss of your father. I've greatly enjoyed the window into U.S. lacrosse history you provide online through the lens of the experiences of three generations of terrific goaltenders. I have no doubt that as great as his lacrosse ...
