Re: TV Broadcasts/Announcers/Production

The women's game had zero minutes of overhype and irrelevant blather instead of 45 minutes, which does not quality as "fine" announcing IMO.

Re: Tewaaraton Award 2024

I still miss Entenmann's Sour Cream Chip and Nut Loaf.

Maybe Liam will bring it back if he (totally undeservedly) gets the Tewy ...

Re: TV Broadcasts/Announcers/Production

If you're jonesing for some lax today, the women's championship game between the defending champs Northwestern "Lake Show", with last year's Tewy winner and all-time NCAA career goal scorer Izzy Scane, and 7th-consecutive championship game appearance (with one win) Boston College was a gre...

Yeah, and how many titles did that buy the Jays? Who started with every advantage of being a storied program with a long history of success, which is the only reason they have alums willing to do this in the first place?

Re: Tewaaraton Award 2024

Some interesting numbers from Lacrosse Reference, which has a rubric for computing the contribution towards an eventual goal (including actually scoring the goal), or preventing an eventual goal by the opponent, of every play. Here are the top-16 in expected goals per game: stat_tewy.jpg Shelly is #...

Re: Next Programs To Win National Titles For The First Time?

The only thing preventing it is that (and I'm sorry to have to be the one to let everybody here know) nobody who matters cares about lacrosse. So nobody with $13M to toss around is going to blow it on enhancing a sport that will only lead to questions from hot women at cocktail parties of "isn'...

Listened to Tierney do color for the Denver-Cornell game. Let's just say it's a work in progress.

Re: Teams Losing In Postseason After Going In Undefeated Or Without A Loss Since Early In Season

The granddaddy of them all is Cornell 78, which lost the title game to Hop, ending a 3-season 42-game winning streak that included 2 undefeated national championships in 76 and 77.

As I predicted. There is zero chance that a fraidy-cat Ivy Prez would sign off on it.

Not a dis on Brown, Cornell is at least as bad.

Beardmore was a great coach, but it's fair to remember that in his day it was an 8-team NCAA tournament.

I think he has as good a shot as anyone you could get instead. (That is, I would give Tils or Lars a better chance, but they're not taking the job.)

Yes. I think most coaches would tell you that they would need to have been there, with sideline knowledge of the team's mental and physical state, to make that call.

happened at a totally different time. ND, Denver, PSU, OSU, Michigan, did not exist as serious competitors. Talent pool was much more localized. Etc etc etc.

And why stop at 8? You know why: things went rapidly downhill from there.

Re: QF #3 Hopkins vs #6 Virginia Sunday @2:30

Why didn’t PM call a timeout? Draw up a play. Score. That's it, Milliman forgot to tell them to score! His O was exhausted. They weren’t making much headway. The ball had just gone out of bounds. There were 27 seconds left on the shot clock. You don’t think that was a good scenario for a tim...
