Next Programs To Win National Titles For The First Time?

Post by gymman1031 »

Yep! Another year, another post from me with this question. However, while I don't want to "count my chickens before they are hatched", I like to think that Brown, now that Jon Torpey is their man, will be higher on the list in this discussion. What a great hire!

Don’t go bad on Doc. He is always balanced and obviously missed the header on the thread 😎

Towson could get white hot and make a run. In a talent hotbed, accommodating admissions, well established and youngish coach with tenure and a resume. Loyola certainly did it coming from a tougher conference.

I think the next one is a Loyola-type school. i.e. A school that no one saw coming. It just happened. (We can say the same for Yale but I believe that Yale's c'ship was a different animal.) Denver, Notre Dame, we saw it coming. Loyola, not so much. The question is, Who is the next Loyola? By definition, we do not know but... I'm gonna say OSU or UMass. Or, as others are saying, UMich, PSU, or Rutgers. All the ACC teams have won a National C'ship. Maybe, in time, the same will be true for the B1G.

Is there anything preventing an alumnus or fan from offering $13 million (like the Florida QB lawsuit) in NIL to buy every returning all-american and top 5 recruit to enroll in one school? If so, it could be any random school regardless of current trajectory or momentum.

Nothing preventing this. Build an outrageously nice facility, get the best coach, get the best players. Nothing preventing this and it happens.

The only thing preventing it is that (and I'm sorry to have to be the one to let everybody here know) nobody who matters cares about lacrosse.

So nobody with $13M to toss around is going to blow it on enhancing a sport that will only lead to questions from hot women at cocktail parties of "isn't that a city in Wisconsin?"

There are absolutely some rich alums at Hopkins that could make this happen.

$10M in 2011 is a lot of money today.

Yeah, and how many titles did that buy the Jays? Who started with every advantage of being a storied program with a long history of success, which is the only reason they have alums willing to do this in the first place?
