Re: Connecticut 2024

Great win by Ridgefield today. Got to see this one live and Ridgefield outplayed Staples all game long. The final score is misleading, it wasn’t that close. Just an observation: after last years FCIAC championship game one of the Wilton fans said out loud to a group of parents “the year is done! Do...

Re: Best Team of All Time

....very nice to see you again, too! We had a great regular season this year, with great conference Tournaments, don't you think? One of the most fun seasons I can remember in a long while. Re the main subject of this thread, I think ND's dominance this year struck me as special precisely because e...

Re: Notre Dame 2024

ND fans are going to LOVE Jeffery and Burmeister will bring some pop too. Any intel on Pokorny? Doesnt seem overly athletic from the little Ive seen, but looks to have a good stick / crafty. Terrific scorer with great hands on the inside and a hammer from the outside; I think he'll be a real threat...

Re: Best Team of All Time

Feel like there's too many variables across eras to definitively state one team is above the rest. But I will say that in the modern era it's 2022 Maryland. I think the stat that spells out their dominance most starkly is that across an 18 game season, they trailed for only 40 minutes total. They ba...

Re: New England West 2025

Not trying to kick off WW3 here, but West 1 isn't an apples-to-apples comparison to any other league because of the PGs. Obviously they'd still have great teams without them. Wick is a testament to that. But give the MIAA teams another 3-5 19 year olds on a scale of NESCAC to ACC recruits, and I th...

Re: Notre Dame 2024

People talk about the 2022 Maryland team as being a "generational" team; I submit this group from ND the last two years as having surpassed them. You can argue about going undefeated, etc. but you have to give this group it's due - the last two seasons they have been outstanding. Congrats...

Re: Mikey Powell appreciation thread

UVa guy, but damn...Mikey Powell was an absolute freak. He walked so PKav et al could run. This sort of implies that PKav is the evolution of Mikey. No disrespect to Pat, but Mikey Powell was a whole different beast. Still the best lacrosse player of at least the 21st century IMO. The guy who most ...

Re: Your Most Memorable National Title Game Ever?

Most memorable to me was probably 2016 Maryland vs. UNC. It was more exciting than even the legendary 2021 UVA/Maryland game despite being pre-shot clock.

Others from the past 20 years that standout: the aforementioned 2021 title, 2009 Cuse/Cornell, 2010 Duke/ND, 2007 Duke/Hopkins.

Re: John Tillman: Best Coach in the Game, Right?

I don't think there's any warmth under Byrne's seat. It was always going to take some time for them to catch up to Yale/Princeton/Penn/Cornell. As for Tillman, I think there's zero doubt in my mind he is the best in the business. His record in the NCAA tournament with a week to prepare (i.e. excludi...

Re: Connecticut 2024

New Canaan has been losing steam a bit lately. The defense has come back to the earth a bit, in part because their star FOGO has now been bested twice in quick succession against Staples and Don Bosco; how much of their success is predicated on possession dominance? Staples is still without Burmeist...

Re: Connecticut 2024

I dont have intel but just looking at trends of the general landscape moving towards Prep, you have Brunswick which has always been there and maybe been poaching since 2014, but you have the rise of GCDS in the last few years which may be poaching players as they offer an alternative to the public ...

Re: Teams Losing In Postseason After Going In Undefeated Or Without A Loss Since Early In Season

The most forgotten juggernaut of the 2000s is 2008 Duke. They had their entire squad back from the 2007 finalist because of the extra year granted after they were railroaded in 2006. Pretty similar to this year's ND team; steamrolled everyone in their path except for a one-off lost Georgetown. Hopki...

Re: Connecticut 2024

Even with some students going to Brunswick or elsewhere, Greenwich HS still has about twice the enrollment of Ridgefield or New Canaan or Darien. Staples is a little bigger than those three but still has 1000 less students than GHS. Not sure what the problem is with GHS lacrosse, but even with losi...

Re: QF #4 Syracuse vs #5 Denver Sunday @ noon

Might be time to initiate a new tradition and strip the #22 for services not rendered. From what I have heard about him, he's a very good teammate and all about being a good teammate. Honestly, it'd be a real baller move for him to say. "I'm giving it up, and if I earn it back, I earn it back....

Re: Tewaaraton Award 2024

I don’t think Entrnmann deserves to be in the discussion, but it seems pretty clear the media wants him involved. Interestingly, the only unanimous 1st Media All-American isn't a finalist. But a "first goalie" to win the award is a good angle. Sorta like when Megan Taylor won it on the wo...

Re: QF #3 Hopkins vs #6 Virginia Sunday @2:30

F U Nunes. Ain’t on Nunes. UVA is giving up the middle of the field way to easily. All 4 goals were created by getting to the middle of the field. Yeah I know a lot of those shots were from distance, but they weren't really on him. No one is saving on Degnon when he picks his spot from 10 yards, an...
