There's immeasurable value in having "that dude" who you run things through in crunch time, especially when he's several seasons into that role and has history delivering in key moments. Gives confidence to the sideline and teammates.

The game-tying goal was a really unfortunate missed coverage by Fairfield that let Robinson step into a 12-13-yarder. It happened, though, because of the defense wanting to have the right coverage on him. Tough break. The OT game winner just happened fast--kind of a "that's just what he does" goal. A benefit of Delaware having "that dude" and not calling the too-common OT timeout.

Two plays in the final minutes of Q4 that were huge:

-Fairfield SSDM split a double team then got popped when he tried to split a second one. In-person it seemed like shoulder to helmet, 50/50 it gets a flag. It didn't. If it had, Fairfield would have been EMO, up a goal, with two minutes left.
-DeLuca might have had the play-of-the-game when he saw a backside double coming and called a timeout late in Q4. Refs whistled the timeout as the ball hit the ground. DeLuca saved a possession there and Delaware scored after. (I think that was the game-tying goal, but my memory might be off.)

Heckuva game. Clean play with few TOs (25 total), just two flags, only two failed clears, nice mix of transition, settled offense, and defensive stops (saves and shot clock). Fairfield played its most complete game of the season, but Delaware got the saves and scoring it needed to prevail.

My points on Robinson, which I also included a follow up on, really are,

Robinson is unique in this conference, we won't see his kind again.

He's such fun to watch. Not ball dominant, but a threat with and without the ball in his stick. Like a top basketball three-point shooter, he has 'gravity' that reduces the amount that you can play help defense off him because of his shooting and ability to dodge a close out. He's not a physically scary dodger -- not big or crazy fast. But he probes well, values the ball, and finds angles to get and finish shots -- simple-looking ones like the game winner last night and Sportscenter Top 10 ones like the 2022 on-the-run BTB at Georgetown in NCAAs, which is still probably the most audacious goal I've seen in person.

Not much of a contest,
unfortunately for the Hens and their multi-year period of Michael Robinson, Tye Kurtz, Owen Grant dominance.

Nick DeMaio having a day with 6 assists.

Tigers back to playing as they did earlier, when they shredded Navy and St. Joes.

Towson will be a very difficult opponent in the tournament. No matter who they play.

Hopefully the Tigers remember 2019, they were number one ranked for what two weeks, three weeks - got a number six seed and a home game,

where they lost that 1st round home game, played it too conservative and watched the Terps tie it with seconds left.

NLL announces top players in this years playoffs,
18. Curtis Dickson – San Diego Seals – Offense (Hens)
Curtis Dickson is an NLL all-timer. He is a future NLL Hall of Famer and one of the greatest goal scorers we’ve ever seen. Despite missing five games in the second-half of the regular season, Dickson still managed to finish as the Seals’ third-best scorer with 27 tallies. Unfortunately, we haven’t seen much of Dickson over the last couple months because of his injury – he’s only played three games since March 2nd, and during the Quarterfinals’ match against Panther City Lacrosse Club, he couldn’t find the back of the net. If Dickson can get back to form and be able to give that potent Seals’ offense the boost we knew he can, he will play a significant factor in the Semifinals against Albany.

16. Tye Kurtz – Albany FireWolves – Offense (Hens)
Tye Kurtz, in all likelihood, will end up coming in second place for this year’s Rookie of the Year Award. His 78 points was the 12th-most by a rookie in NLL history and his 112 loose ball recoveries was one of the most by a rookie forward in NLL history. Kurtz and his rookie partner in crime, Alex Simmons, have put together one of the best seasons for a rookie duo in league history. So much of that success has been the byproduct of each other’s play. During the FireWolves’ Quarterfinals match against the Halifax Thunderbirds, Kurtz’s three points and two assists tied for the most on the team, and his four loose ball recoveries tied for the most by any FireWolves forward in that game.

8. Challen Rogers – Toronto Rock – Transition (Stony Brook)
Challen Rogers is one of the most talented all-around lacrosse players on the planet. He really can do it all. Lately, he’s been one of the Rock’s best at moving the ball around, and even led the team in scoring during the Quarterfinals with five points, including three assists. He knows how to push the ball up the floor but isn’t afraid to muck things up and cause turnovers or even block a few shots, either. As a lead by example type of player, Rogers knows when and where he needs to be on the floor – there’s a reason he’s been captain of the Rock since the 2018-19 season. He knows the Bandits better than many of his teammates, so don’t be surprised if you see Rogers laying everything on the line to finally take down his team’s biggest foe during this epic Semifinals matchup.

7. Mitch de Snoo – Toronto Rock – Defenseman (Drexel)
Defense wins championships and Mitch de Snoo is arguably the best defender in the league right now, let alone the best defender left in the playoffs. During the regular season, de Snoo was the only player to register 150+ loose balls, 35+ caused turnovers and 15+ blocked shots. For good measure, he also stepped up his game trying to get the offense going – de Snoo posted a career-high 21 points and 13 assists this season. De Snoo has some help on offense and defense is a team effort, but there are few men in the league who can singlehandedly make an impact on defense like de Snoo.

1. Josh Byrne – Buffalo Bandits – Forward (Dutch)
Josh Byrne was arguably the best player in the NLL during the regular season – he finished with the most points (135). During the Quarterfinals’ game against the Swarm last weekend, he picked up right where left off. Byrne tallied a postseason-best five goals and added an assist and a bunch of loose balls as well. He is an elite scorer and a dynamic playmaker who has so many tricks in his bag, it makes it very difficult to contain him. Byrne may end up winning this year’s MVP Award, but that might not be all. If he and the Bandits keep this up, there’s no reason to believe he wouldn’t be in the running for NLL Finals MVP, as well.

Hens have one more year in CAA. Most people have them moving to Atlantic 10. It’s either there or America East I would guess. They’d make either of those conferences stronger. Next year will be rebuilding year for UD.

Some nice returning young players like freshmen Louie Atkinson, John McCurry, Ryder Buell, Tyler Owings and sophs Brendan Powers, Hank D’Ambrogi, Finn Morgan and Patrick Gillin. But for them to compete with a very young and talented Towson squad they’ll need to get Drew Lenkaitis, Jason Kolar and Riar Schell back from injuries and convince Matt Montgomery and Kevin Ellington to return for another year.

The CAA will be pretty weak next year, aside from Towson in my opinion.

I would expect a few transfers to Delaware as well. Hopefully, they sneak into the CAA tournament healthy and make some noise. Kind of a transition year I would think.
