I seem to recall that when Stevenson was National Champion and had fireworks and huge inflatable Mustangs at the games, it rubbed Salisbury the wrong way.

After the debacle of 2017 when the annual SU vs SU game was postponed then rescheduled then to only be canceled indefinitely bc it was rumored Cantabene tried changing game time and refs behind Berkmans back.

Berkman will NEVER give Cantabene an inch. No love lost there.

Certainly have heard my fair share of rumblings regarding these 2 over the years. Whether it's been bus issues, traffic/accidents on the Bay bridge delaying start times, weather, etc. This little "rivalry" has it all.

With all that being said, I’m not sure if the inflatables, fireworks, or hooting and hollering have ever been a factor in why Coach Berkan doesn’t partake in the Mustang Classic. Which is why Stevenson is still on the schedule as an out-of-conference opponent.

While I believe they (Salisbury) would be a great addition to this awesome tournament, it was never really and doesn’t appear to be a priority for them (possibly because of bad blood for Bener?). However, Coach Berkman has been notorious for scheduling teams that would impact his regional ranking for tournament seeding, especially when the CAC existed. While some/most of the selection criteria has changed over the years, especially with their move to the Coastal Lacrosse Conference, I think he would rather fill out his schedule as he is accustomed to. Looking at this year alone and who is participating in the Mustang Classic, Salisbury plays 4 of the 10 teams (York, CNU, Stevenson, Lynchburg) with the possibility of playing CNU up to 3x (like last year).

As an alum and fan, it would be cool to see them there, but it’s tough for me to ever challenge what Coach’s methodology is given his success. Regardless, I'll be watching come Friday. Given that Salisbury has a game on the 14th and then plays Stevenson on the 23rd, I'm guessing Salisbury will be watching too.

i wouldn’t be surprised if salisbury isn’t invited.
i wouldn’t be surprised if salisbury turned down invites to avoid having to play tufts in a regular season game where it is likely they could face each other again in the natty.

salisbury is by far the leader of D3, they can do things that others teams can’t. and still find a way to win it all.

With rosters popping up we are beginning to see what I’d call” super teams” . Only because I follow the ODAC closely I wanted to see what Lynchburg returns; it’s everybody. Their goalie Hadley returns for a 5th year with 50 games, 32 starts and is an AA. Mitchell 67 career games 151 career pts, Ian McCarthy 54 games 38 pts, Marindin on D 64 games 74 gbs 41 cto’s , Cotter 29 games 25 pts , Shuster 50 games 47 gbs 31 cto’s, Dylan Wolfe 53 games 112 pts. Lynchburg is my dark horse to win it all , top choice is CNU. All ODAC teams need to step up and bring their best this season to beat the Hornets.

For my pick of the year hands down is CNU 13 grads 12 seniors; 5 yr- Miller 59 games 190 pts, Mercado 37 games, 24 pts, Adam’s, 55 games 86 pts, Wheeler Def, 62 games 61 gbs , Auslander 62 games 210 pts, 74 gbs Brandes 67 games 227 pts 85 gbs, Hannah goalie 60 starts 54% save pct. Foti ? Randy Mac transfer, Cook 42 games 164 pts 47 gbs, kropnski 37 games,25 gbs O’Brien …Brost Def 45 games 62 gbs Young Def, 58 games 164 gbs, 113 cto’s. …. I will be very surprised if they can’t win it all. The saying has always been you win with your seniors , it can be said now you win with your grad students.

Having said that, RIT hasn’t lost back-to-back in eight years. They haven’t lost more than two games in any season in that span.
