I bet the media (and Quint) will keep Maryland and Duke above Denver and Cornell.

Duke deserves to be where you have them, since their best wins are against Princeton, BU, and Richmond.

I really should have ranked ND #1 as more incentive for Cornell to beat the #1 team in the country next Sunday, but the media will take care of that this morning in their next poll.

This is good. I’d absolutely have UVA over ND as well. If Ghobriel is healthy, I’m taking UVA over ND. UVA’s difference this year is imo the young scrappers like Terenzi and Millon; these two have the youthful alpha personalities on the field, something I think was missing last year.

I’m not anti Notre Dame, but I’m definitely cheering for Cornell this week. Go get’em JoeWillie!!! Your FOGO must have a good game.

Agree 100% Fin. Our Fogos (Psyllos and Petrakis) are certainly not elite, but I give them credit as they scrap and fight, and with our #1 Fogo out, they have really risen to the challenge.

It should be a great game.

Honestly kind of a toss up.. outside of Maryland, UVA does not have any particularly impressive wins and just got spanked by Duke.

Wins vs Hop, Cornell and GT are hard to argue with. The rest of the schedule isn’t total trash like some, though a few games stick out. The argument against them is the lack of a win over an ACC team not named UNC.

You're responding to a ranking from last week. More over, UMD barely beat OSU away as well. Is Maryland too high this week?

I inadvertently quoted the previous poll but my point remains the same. JW's current poll has JHU ranked #3 and OSU unranked. Yet JHU barely squeaked by OSU in OT last night. JHU is ranked way too high. Perhaps OSU should be in the top 20.

Apologies JW for the poorly worded post; not meant to be a personal affront, just a statement on the algorithm that produced those results. As far as the intended point, I don't see how any metric right now could place PSU or Maryland ahead of UVA.

KNR,
No apology neccessary. By putting out my weekly top20, I expect all the grief I get, and really don't mind any of the arrows aimed my way. Words sometimes just come out with a different connotation than how they were supposed to get a point across.

You are a great poster with great insights, so no worries at all.

Doc,

My wife calls the algorithm you are referring to "CLF" (Crazy Lacrosse Fanaticism). She says my brain is completely useless until the Tuesday after Memorial Day Weekend.

Hopkins resume is easily worthy of the #3 ranking. Beating ANY BIG team on the road as the Jay's did last night is a great win, even though some will diminish that accomplishment. Also, I believe they are #3SOS and #3RPI.

I think it's clear they are one of the best 20 teams in the country. In the last month or so, they easily handled Rutgers and lost by 1-3 goals to Hopkins, Maryland, Penn State, Denver, and Notre Dame. If you're roughly ~2 goals worse on average than all of those consensus top 10 teams then you're probably a top 20 team yourself. But I also don't think you're going to find many people that will rank a team that's 6-7. At the end of the day, the schedule you have is the one you have and you've got to win some games on it.

When the poll comes out this morning I would expect some voters to reward teams like Sacred Heart or Utah for having good records and going on big winning streaks. But if Sacred Heart played OSU tomorrow, is anyone picking Sacred Heart to win?

Black smoke from Vatican indicates they think this is a toss-up.
