In a game that was surprisingly one-sided, Swarthmore (4-0) scored the first seven goals of the game and cruised past Elizabethtown (0-2) 22-8. Gavin Gismondi had 2 goals and an assist for the Blue Jays. One highlight for Elizabethtown was a goal scored by goalie Brayden Franey in the third quarter.

In another game where the final winning margin was somewhat of a surprise, Cortland (2-0) led early and handed a decisive defeat to Scranton (1-4) by a score of 14-7. On offense, the Royals were led by Matthew Mcaree, with 4 goals, and Joe Boyle, with a goal and 2 assists.

Catholic (0-3) traveled out to Franklin & Marshall (4-1) and dropped a 13-5 decision to the Diplomats. Ryan Macksoud had a solid game at faceoff winning 15 of 22 draws. Defenseman Mike Tayloe caused 2 turnovers and grabbed 5 groundballs.

Moravian (0-3) traveled down to Florida to take on Berry (2-3). Berry broke open a close game with 4 unanswered goals in the third quarter and went on to win 12-8. Trevor Dzama and Vincent Devito each had 2 goals and an assist for Moravian. Gannon Mesko won 13 of 20 faceoffs and defenseman Mike Sickler caused 4 turnovers and scooped up 3 groundballs.

Wilkes (1-2) let in 5 fourth quarter goals allowing Utica (1-2) to tie the game at 8-8 with just under two minutes left. After an apparent game-winner by Utica in the first overtime, the Pioneers scored in the second overtime to defeat Wilkes 9-8. Colby Opromolla led Wilkes with a goal and 2 assists and defenseman Michael Rauch caused 4 turnovers and had 5 groundballs. Goalie Joseph Marino was outstanding for Wilkes with 20 saves.

Susquehanna (3-2) blew a lead in the fourth quarter allowing Shenandoah (2-2) to tie the game with under a minte to go and send the game to overtime. Connor Aitken scored the game-winner on an assist from Steven Musser to give the River Hawks their third win of the season.
Brennan Lorrence pumped in 5 goals for Susquehanna. Nick Redmund had 2 goals and Jack Gaillard chipped in a goal and 2 assists. Jared Tavernite controlled the faceoffs, winning 16 of 21. LSM Ted Zaborowski caused 2 turnovers and had 9 groundballs.

Goucher (3-1) broke open a close game with a six-goal third quarter and defeated Lebanon Valley (2-3) 14-11. Goucher was very efficient on offense netting those 14 goals on just 29 shots. All three of the Gopher's wins have been on the road. James Dugan scored 7 goals and added an assist. Jack McDermott, Theo Cook IV and Caelan Young all had 2 goals with McDermott adding as assist. Freshman goalie Jack Smith was stellar in goal with 18 saves, a career high in his first season.

Not sure who the top dawg is gonna be this year. I mean those scores yesterday from the “top” teams was alarming. I truly believe it’s anyone’s year… No team has even really shown promise where they made good plays back to back. Kinda sad from the press the conference was getting a few years back to this but I guess it comes with cycles.

Mid-week games for the Landmark teams this week.

Tuesday, March 5

Juniata (0-3) at Washington & Jefferson (1-2) at 7:00 PM.

Wednesday, March 6

Drew (3-1) is on the road against Manhattanville (3-1) at 12:00 PM. Manhattanville defeated Wilkes 14-8 on February 25.

Wilkes (1-2) is at Lebanon Valley (2-3) at 4:00 PM. Lebanon Valley has defeated Moravian 13-6 and lost to Goucher 14-11.

Susquehanna (3-1) is at home against Immaculata (2-1) at 4:00 PM.

Moravian (0-3) looks for their first win of the season at home against Albright (3-2). Albright lost to Drew 22-9 on February 18.

Lycoming (1-1) travels to Keuka (1-0) for a 7:00 PM game.

Goucher (3-1) is at home under the lights against Neumann (4-1) at 7:00 PM. Neumann defeated Drew 10-8 on February 18.

Scranton (1-4) continues with their challenging schedule hosting Montclair State (2-0) at 7:00 PM.

Elizabethtown (0-2) looks for their first victory of the year with a another tough opponent going on the road to Stockton (3-0) at 7:00 PM. Stockton beat Scranton 15-6 last week.

Landmark Players of the Week for the first three weeks.

February 20
Men's Lacrosse Offensive: Riley Zeer (Drew University)

Making his Ranger Stadium debut, Zeer pumped in five goals and two assists to help lead Drew to a 22-9 victory over Albright. He racked up three goals and one assist in the first quarter alone, helping Drew race out to an early 6-2 lead. He added a goal with nine seconds left in the first half to put the Rangers up 11-4 at the break.

Men's Lacrosse Defensive: Jack Smith (Goucher College)

Smith stopped 15 of the 23 shots he faced in his collegiate debut (.652 save percentage) as the Gophers opened with a 12-8 win at Methodist. He also had a caused turnover and picked up a pair of ground balls.

February 27

Men's Lacrosse Offensive: Brennan Lorence (Susquehanna University)

Lorence became the fourth player in school history to reach 100 career goals in a five-goal performance at King's College (Pa.) in the team's 15-5 victory with his second goal. The junior scored five goals and added two groundballs.

Men's Lacrosse Defensive: Ben Franco (Lycoming College)

Franco posted 23 saves in 64:42 of action to lead Lycoming to a 10-9 overtime win over Gwynedd Mercy in the season opener. He also added three groundballs in the game and helped the team overcome 12 minutes and 11:30 in penalty time with his performance, as the Griffins fired 50 shots in the game. Franco made two critical saves in overtime.

March 4
Men's Lacrosse Offensive: James Dugan (Goucher College)

Dugan scored seven goals and added an assist in Goucher's 14-11 win at Lebanon Valley on Saturday. He also added two goals and an assist in Wednesday's win at Hood.

Men's Lacrosse Defensive: Joseph Marino (Wilkes University)

Marino helped Wilkes to a 1-1 week in non-conference play as he totaled 34 saves, a .667 save percentage, and an 8.18 goals-against-average. During an 11-8 win for the Colonels on Wednesday at Marywood University, the senior made 14 saves and added four ground balls. Marino converted 20 saves and had three ground balls during a 9-8 double overtime loss to Utica University on Saturday.

Juniata (1-3) scored the first 4 goals of the game and went on to earn their first win of the season on the road at Washington & Jefferson (1-3)
Kolton Black poured in 6 goals for the Eagles (a Juniata single-game record) and Beaux Wojciechowski added a hat trick and an assist. Defenseman Rueben Stoll caused 2 turnovers and grabbed 6 groundballs. Goalie Ryan Madison had 11 saves.

Drew's offense, especially their attack line, was too much for Manhattanville's defense as the Rangers scored a decisive win on the road by a 17-10 score. Drew is now 4-1, while Manhattanville fell to 3-2.
Riley Zeer had 6 goals and 2 assists and Mike DeMayo had 5 goals and 3 assists to lead Drew's offense. On defense, Tyler McCarthy caused 4 turnovers and grabbed 7 groundballs and Jordan Wilson caused a turnover and added 6 groundballs.
GJ Nazziola domainated at faceoff, winning 22 of 25 draws with 10 groundballs.

Elizabethtown (0-3) led early against undefeated Stockton (4-0) and actually stayed close until the fourth quarter before losing to the Ospreys by a score of 18-12. Colin Kondracki led the offense with 4 goals and an assist and freshman Tristan Coleman added a goal and 5 assists. Connor Stewart and Nolan Krasnick each had 2 goals for the Blue Jays. Brayden Franey had 14 saves in goal for Elizabethtown.

Wilkes (1-3) led early against Lebanon Valley (3-3) but was held scoreless in the second half and dropped a 10-7 decision to the Dutchmen. THe offense was led by Anthony DelDuca with three goals, Dillon Kadis with 2 goals and Colby Opromolla with a goal and 2 assists. Goalie Joseph Marino had 12 saves.

Lycoming (1-2) made a late run in a close game at Keuka (2-0) but fell short and lost by a score of 12-9. Troy Scozzafava pumped in 4 goals for Lycoming to lead their offense. Rory Hines with 2 goals and Patrick Dwyer with a goal and 2 assists alos contributed for the Warriors. On defense, Jacob Switzer caused 6 turnovers and grabbed 6 groundballs. Goalie Ben Franco stopped 10 of the 22 shots he faced.

Scranton (2-4) used a five-goal third quarter to pull away from a very good Montclair State (2-1) team for an impressive 12-9 victory. Matthew McAree led the Royals offense with 5 goals. Alex Eglitis added 2 goals and 2 assists. Scranton's defense was anchored by Colin Pierce, with 3 caused turnovers and 9 groundballs, and Andrew Lord, with 3 caused turnovers and 4 groundballs. Declan Allen had 12 saves for Scranton.

Susquehanna (4-1) took charge early and went on to defeat Immaculata (2-2) by a score of 15-6. The River Hawks offense was led by Kieran Thomas, with 4 goals, and Jack Gaillard, with 2 goals and 6 assists. Connor Aitken added a goal and 3 assists. Jared Tavernite dominated at faceoff, winning 11 of 13 while picking up 7 groundballs.

In a game that was tight all the way and tied four different times, Moravian (1-3) notched its first win of the year by scoring 2 goals late in the fourth quarter and defeating Albright (3-3) 15-12. Trevor Dzama had an outstanding game on offense, scoring 5 goals with 4 assists. Aaron Judge and Connor James had 2 goals each and james added 2 assists. On defense, Matt Baer caused 2 turnovers and gathered in 5 groundballs. Connor James broke the Moravian record for goals with his second goal. He now holds the record with 135 vcareer goals for the Greyhounds. Goalie Thomas Lee had 13 saves.

Goucher (4-1) opened up a close game with 8 third quarter goals and went on to defeat Neumann (4-2) 14-8. James Dugan led the Gopher offense with 2 goals and 3 assists, Jack McDermott and Kevin Gearhart each had a hat trick. Holden Vance (1 G, 3 A), Jacob Morgan (2 G, 1 A) and Tyler May (2 G) all contributed to the balanced Goucher offense. Defenseman Sean Nolan caused 4 turnovers and scooped up 3 groundballs to anchor the Goucher defense, which gave up only 3 goals in the second half.

Weekend schedule for Landmark teams.

Friday, March 8

Juniata (1-3) is on the road at McDaniel (4-0). McDaniel defeated Goucher 14-7 on February 24.

Saturday, March 9

Drew (4-1) visits Merchant Marine (1-1) at 12:00 PM. Merchant Marine defeated Moravian 12-8 on February 24.

Scranton (2-4) faces another challenge on the road against Ithaca (2-2) at 1:00 PM. Ithaca routed Lycoming 24-2 on February 28.

Susquehanna (4-1) travels to Haverford (3-2) at 1:00 PM.

Moravian (1-3) is on the road against Immaculata (2-2) at 1:00 PM. Immaculata lost to Susquehanna on March 6.

Wilkes (1-3) hosts Rosemont (0-3) at 1:00 PM.

Elizabethtown (0-3) is at home against St. Mary's (2-1) at 1:00 PM. St. Mary's beat Juniata 20-4 on February 27.

Catholic (0-3) hosts Pfeiffer (2-4) at 1:00 PM.

Goucher (4-1) is at home against Albright (3-3) at 1:00 PM. Albright has dropped decisions to Drew 22-9 on February 18 and to Moravian 15-12 on March 6.

On Friday night, McDaniel (5-0) scored 7 unanswered first quarter golas and cruised past Juniata (1-4) by a score of 19-2. KoltonBlack had 2 goals and 2 assists and Brandon Simonini had a hat trick to lead the Eagles offense.Goalie Griffin Umstead had 18 saves.

Scranton (2-5) hung tough on the road with Ithaca (3-2) before dropping a 15-12 decision. The Royals offense was led by Matthew McAree with 5 goals and Alex Eglitis with 3 golas.

Albright (4-3) broke open a close game with 6 second quarter goals and defeated Goucher (4-2) 14-6. Jack McDermott and Tyler May scored 2 goals each for the Gophers. Defenseman Sean Nolan had a solid game, causing 4 turnovers and grabbing 6 groundballs.

Two Landmark teams notched their first wins of the season and three others hung on for one-goal wins on Saturday.

Catholic (1-3) got their first win of the year by a score of 16-12 over Pfeiffer (2-5) but it wasn't easy. The Cardinals jumped out to a 7-0 first quarter lead but Pfeiffer clawed back to tie the game 11-11 at the end of the third quarter. Catholic took charge in the fourth quarter both on offense and defense to cement the victory. Brady McMahon had 4 goals and 2 assists and Victor Rosado had 2 goals and 3 assists. Mike Mulligan, Steven Dezelic and Fitz McLaughlin chipped in 2 goals each with Mulligan and Dezelic adding assists. Ryan Macksoud controlled the faceoff circle, winning 21 of 32 and scooping up 13 groundballs.On defense, Mike Tayloe and Sam Pikul each caused 2 turnovers and had 5 groundballs.

Elizabethtown (1-4) won for the first time this season with a 17-10 win over St. Mary's (3-2). Tristan Coleman with 2 goals and 3 assists led the Blue Jays offense. Colin Kondracki and Connor Stewart each notched a hat trick and Kondracki added an assist.. Gavin Gismondi had two goals and an assists and Riley Langen had a goal to go along with 2 assists. TJ Chapman was strong at faceoff winning 15 of 25 with 6 groundballs. On defense, Lucas Kohler caused 3 turnovers and had 4 groundballs.

Susquehanna (5-1) hung on to defeat Haverford (3-3) 10-9 in a game that was close the entire way. Brennan Lorrence netted 4 goals (with two coming in the fourth quarter) and Nick Remund had 3 goals, including two late in the fourth quarter for the River Hawks. Goalie Jozef Korpics had 14 saves.

In another game that was tight the entire time, Moravian (2-3) defeated Immaculata (2-3) on the road by a score of 10-9. Trevor Dzama scored the winning goal on an assist from Dan Kelly to ice the win with 1:41 left in the game. Dzama had 3 goals and 4 assists and his teammate Vincent Devito added 4 goals of his own. Gannon Mesko won 15 of 23 faceoffs with 6 groundballs. On defense, Jason Levy caused 2 turnovers and caused 5 groundballs.

Drew (5-1) scratched back from a 7-1 first quarter deficit to edge Merchant Marine (1-2) on a goal by Riley Zeer from an assist by Joey Larmore with just over a minute left in the game. Zeer had 4 goals and Joey Larmoe had a goal with 4 assists for the Ranger offense. Tommy Larmore and Matt Giordano added 2 goals each for Drew. GJ Nazziola dominated at faceoff, winning 20 og 29and grabbing 11 groundballs. Defenseman Tyler McCarthy caused 2 turnovers and had 3 groundballs.

Landmark Conference Athletes of the Week - March 11, 2024

Men's Lacrosse Offensive: Trevor Dzama (Moravian University)

Dzama helped Moravian to a 2-0 week in non-conference action with nine goals, eight assists, and three ground balls during the week. He had five goals and four assists in a 15-12 win over Albright, and Dzama added three goals, including the game-winner, four assists, and a pair of ground balls in a 10-9 win at Immaculata. The eight assists move Dzama within two of becoming the second player in Moravian history to reach 100 career assists.

Men's Lacrosse Defensive: Jozef Korpics (Susquehanna University)

Senior Jozef Korpics was a mainstay in goal for Susquehanna as the River Hawks picked up wins against Immaculata (15-6) and Haverford (10-9). Korpics allowed just 12 goals over the two games while making 24 saves for a save percentage of .667.

Landmark games for Tuesday, March 12

Juniata (1-4) is at home against Keuka (2-1) at 4:30. Keuka defeated Lycoming 12-9 on March 6.

Goucher (4-2) hosts Curry (2-5). Game time is 7:00.

Goucher (5-2) took their first lead of the game with just under five minutes left against Curry (2-6) as defenseman Sean Nolan caused a turnover and Dylan White picked up the loose ball and went down the field to score the game-winning goal on his only shot of the night to give the Gophers the 8-7 win. Jacob Morgan and Tyler May had 2 goals and an assist each. Nolan caused 2 turnovers and picked up 3 groundballs and his linemate Nick Gambone caused 2 turnover and scooped up 2 groundballs as the Goucher defense held Curry scoreless in the fourth quarter. Goalie Jack Smith was outstanding with 11 saves.

Keuka (3-1) ran out to an 8-2 halftime lead and Juniata (1-5) could not recover as the Eagles dropped a 16-6 decision. Beaux Wojciechowski had 2 goals and 3 assists. Charlie Newman hd 3 goals, all assisted by Wojciechowski. Defenseman Reuben Stoll caused 6 turnovers and had 6 groundballs for Juniata.

In Wednesday's games, all of the Landmark teams will be at home.

Moravian (2-3) hosts St. Joseph's (Maine) at 2:00.

Wilkes (1-3) is at home againt Alvernia (1-2) at 4:00. Alvernia defeated Juniata 12-5 on February 24.

Susquehanna (5-1) is at home agiainst Lebanon Valley (3-3) at 4:00. Lebanon Valley has seen action against three landmark teams, dropping a 14-11 decision to Goucher and posting wins over Moravian (13-6) and Wilkes (10-7).

Catholic (1-3) hosts Mary Washington (4-3) at 6:00 as the Cardinals continue with their challenging out-of-conference schedule.

In Wednesday's games, all four Landmark team were at home and all four were victorious.

Moravian (3-3) fell behind 2-0 in the first quarter but exploded for 8 unanswered second quarter goals and went on to a 15-8 win over St. Joseph's (Maine) (4-3). Trevor Dzama had 3 goals and 4 assists, Connor James had 3 goals and 2 assists and Dan Kelly had 4 goals along with an assist. Defenseman Matt Baer caused a turnover and grabbed 5 groundballs and SSDM Aden Moscovitz caused 2 turnovers and scooped up 4 groundballs.
Gannon Mesko had another strong game at faceoff, winning 20 of 27 with 7 groundballs.

Susquehanna (6-1) won their sixth straight game with a 16-6 win over Lebanon Valley (3-4). The River Hawks took charge in the second half by outscoring Lebanon Valley 8-1. Brennan Lorrence, with 5 goals, and Jack Gaillard, with a goal and 4 assists, led the offense. Connor Aitken and Matthew Faggioli chipped in 2 goals each. On defense, Sean Yamada caused a turnover and had 4 groundballs. Jozef Korpics had 9 saves in goal.

In a close one, Wilkes (2-3) broke a 7-7 tie in the fourth quarter on goals by freshman Austin Sosnovik and senior Austin Seames and held on for a 9-7 win over Alvernia (1-3). Sosnovik led the offense with 3 goals and 2 assists. Tim Hartka had a goal and added 3 assists and Dillon Kadis chipped in 2 goals. The Valiants defense, led by Matthew Warns with a caused turnover and 6 groundballs, killed off a two-man down penalty while holding just a one-goal lead in the fourth quarter. Goalie Joseph Marino had 7 saves.

Catholic (2-3) showed some resilence by coming back from a 8-4 deficit in the third quarter and dominating the second half to take a 10-8 win over Mary Washington (4-4). The Cardinals were paced on offense by Steven Dezekic, with 3 goals, and Victor Rosado, with 3 assists. Freshman Ian Wick scored 2 goals, the first of his collegiate career. Midfielder Lian O'Neil also picked up his first college goal. On defense, Mike Tayloe picked up 7 groundballs and Mason Russo had 4 groundballs as well. Tyler Merchant was solid in goal, stopping 12 shots, half of them coming in the second half while Catholic was limiting Mary Washington to just one goal for over the final 28 minutes.

Drew (5-1) will be hosting the inaugural Leanos Cup starting on Friday. The rangers play at 7:00 PM against Rhodes (5-3). Earlier in the day, Haverford (3-3) will meet #16 Stevens (4-1). The winners of today's games will meet of Sunday as will the losers.

The Leanos Cup is named in honor of long-time Rangers lacrosse coach Tom Leanos, who posted 234 wins in 29 seasons at Drew. He also won the MAC championship in 1994 and led Drew to the Landmark championship in 2008.

Drew (5-2) was held to just one goal in the second half and fell to Rhodes (6-3) 19-5 the first round of the Leanos Cup.
Drew was limited to just 27 shots by the Rhodes defense. GJ Nazziola was strong at faceoff winning 15 of 24 and scoring the only second half goal.
#16 Stevens beat Haverford 18-12 in the other opening round game so Drew will play Haverford in the consolation game on Sunday.
