Lacrosse Documentaries

Post by ODACtionEmpire »

I've seen a few posts about the new Lynchburg Doc, and saw a suggestion that a thread should be started about it. I'm personally loving the attention the ODAC is receiving from it, and would love to see what others are thinking as well. I just finished the 3rd episode tonight and man it is really well put together. Have thought that their media has seen a significant improvement over the past few years. Would love to speculate that this could pay off in recruiting in the near future.

Roanoke looks like they are about to put out a documentary as well. Will be interesting to get a pulse on that program as well.

Jackson Moore is younger brother of Patrick who made Hopkins as walk on.
Coach K is a class act to allow him to capture the look inside.
He’s built a great culture and you can see why Alumni love and support this program. He loves his players and
his message of respect and love for the game is evident.
Love it. Very well done and… damn those posts hit vs. W&L final

There really is an under-appreciation for long form content in the lax world that is executed well through film. Every filmer now is just uploading insta shots/reels over crap music tracks. JMBLX will forever be the goat with their 2010/2014/2015 docs and The Season in 2019. They just had the perfect music and storyline. LSG and their new stuff is just garbage compared to the og imo, ramped slowmo and no storylines for games. This Lynchburg doc is def the closest I've seen to something that compares cinematically.

100% agree. Those JMBLX productions were off the charts. I loved the drone shots of the boys getting extra work in under the lights, the player commentary overlays, all of it. Niche audience, but I love the long form stuff too. So many amazing nuanced stories in any one season on any given team.

Y'all catch Mitch Pehlke's D1 deep dives? Just stumbled into them on the D1 forum. Outstanding. Loved the PSU jawn. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Al6wtSS2CEI

I really enjoy The Rebuilding Year documentary that Roanoke put out on the 2011 season.

Admittedly I do just love to replay the 1:57 mark watching Richie Fords overtime winning goal which could be argued as one of the most iconic goals in NCAA D3 history

These are good but not super investigative and they def lack cinematography/storyline planning.

Oh 100. I think that's Pehlke's first attempt at anything other than lax click bait for the bros. I enjoyed the videos immensely though.

Ithaca's 2014 vid is decent too, but lacks a juicy hook/antagonist. https://youtube.com/watch?v=q7LKlMWHsFU&t=6s I stole Coach Long's Stack 24s idea and used it with my 9 year olds baseball team a last season. Resonated. Coach Colf used the be 1-0 today mentality which is derivative of other similar messages. I like something simple like that, when it conveys such a complex idea of our limited existence, opportunity to play the game we love and the intense need to be present with an eye on doing the right thing right now.

Just finally had a chance to sit down and watch Roanoke's new doc... it was interesting? All I gathered is that they had a sick weekend and then a practice where Pilat was gonna get after them - sounds about right lol (13 min mark). This episode was all about culture and I gathered that Noke is a "party hard work hard" type of program.

It looks like they have it spread out with two episodes covering the Fall and two coming in the Spring. I like that format as the forums will gain some insight into their success and/or failures as the season goes along.

I'm soaking up as much Youtube lacrosse as I can - can't wait for the season to get going and look forward to much ODAC content come February!!!
