Looks to be a good find for the Generals.
Nice player, just caught his tape. Very crafty, good field awareness, shifty. They list him as a M, looks more like an attackman. Either way he looks to be another high quality player to add on to this talented roster. Last 2-3 years the caliber of player W&L has attracted keeps getting better.

And speaking of W&L prospects, JJ Kim, the Senior goalie for The Potomac School and stellar Madlax prospect, fended off an Episcopal High School 4th quarter shot barrage to force overtime, and did the same in OT to help pull out a 10-9 victory.

Congrats to former Generals head coach, Jim Stagnitti, and his pending induction into the Generals HOF. Great coach and friend, who brought W&L back into the top of the lax world. Way to go Stags!!!!

Bath is a steal for W&L, congrats. Future is bright. His brother starts on D for Princeton I believe.

Generals off to a hot start great to see Hillis with 3 assists in the first qtr and Spano looks to be having a day. HSC will have to do something after losing all face offs ,4-2 Generals lead after first qtr.
Spano has won 9 of 11 and W&L trails 6-5. Both teams a bit sloppy this qtr. Burns is on the field hard to tell if he is 100%. Gotta believe with the extra possessions from Spano W&L will pull this out. Brennan getting some minutes hard to play as a freshman while missing fall ball but he is promising.Brown and Heald leading with all the goals . Spano for MVP. Burns takes it up top running downhill for a goal. Spano and now Bou on fire 6 of 9
HSC cannot clear the ball unforced turnovers. 11-8 6 min to play. 11-10 game Blair Brennan comes up with a huge gb and does the right thing running it behind Generals win.

The great thing is that the Generals are playing up and down and still able to pull out games. Some of that is the physical play of the opposition, and some is mistakes driven by lack of communication between players that have replaced their three key injured players and are just learning to play together.

Hopefully two out of the three will return by the Lynchburg game.

Another issue is winning the face off and then either throwing away the ball, or succumbing to a double team trap and turnover.

This needs to be fixed ASAP because it has happened in 4 straight games.

In addition, W&L is making it easier on their opponent by consistently putting the ball right into the goalie’s stick from point blank range or missing the cage entirely.

I am confident that they can regain their form and confidence and play to the level of their talent as they did last year.

Just looking over the W&L 2024 roster and noticed a couple of missing players. Any idea what happened to Deuce Smoot and Tilt Fernandez?

Two of the best named players on last year’s team. Only rivaled by Boots Lackey!

Great gutsy win for the Gennies over Lynchburg.

Unfortunately it looks as if they lost more key players in Mannino and, possibly, Cohen. I think that is 5 of the 6 that have gone down that don’t appear likely to be back in short order.

Coach McCabe did the right thing by inserting a number of seldom used players into the lineup several games ago, in anticipation of just this scenario.

Congrats to a team and coaches that seem to be getting tougher, closer, and more battle tested with every game. The other interesting thing is just how many of the teams regarded “ahead” of them are beginning to show cracks in their armor.

Now, if they can just clean up some of the unforced turnovers, they will be an even tougher out in the ODAC and NCAA tourneys.

Just a great game by the Generals. I thought Lynchburg had a slight edge with Hadley and all their 5th year players. Game balls to De Cain and Spano. Both had excellent nights I thought especially when it mattered in big moments. Was Brennan the player who went down at the end. It did not look good, hope it’s not an Achilles or ACL. They need him and others back in the lineup. Got to give coaches and staff credit in this win. They have a lot of young players playing big minutes in key rolls. That’s a very tough Lynchburg team they beat tonight that in fact payed very well. It wasn’t a case of Lynchburg beating themselves. Generals took it to them

Anyone aware of any issues with Hillis Burns, took only 1 shot more importantly he did not look like himself with the ball. Was he playing just to draw maybe their top defender. Total speculation on my part. I just hope he and others can get to the finish line by season end

I think that the injured player was Mannino. Someone indicated that it was just a cramp. Let’s hope. Any team can only absorb so many long term injuries.

Also, looked like Cohen was limping noticeably, but continued to play some. Hope it is just a mild strain or sprain.

Generals played a helluva game tonight. Not easy coaching when you are missing a number of key players in key roles. Yes, the Generals have depth but you still have to coach these guys up and have them ready when they do step in. Beatty is out, in comes Blair Brennan only a freshman. He played extremely well tonight. The margin of victory might have even been greater if not for the 23 turnovers. That has to be extremely frustrating for the coaching staff. Like to see this team get healthy by year end. Also looks like the game has slowed down for De Cain thought he looked really good tonight and has done a great job clearing the ball

Great game by Spano and DeCain. In our haste to be wowed by first years, let's not forget the contributions of Ott and Smith tonight. The strength of the team last year was their depth and Senior leaders. This game showed that it may be the case this year as well.

Enjoyed listening to the Lynchburg broadcasters. They did a nice job. Just wish the camera would have zoomed out a bit so they didn't have to keep moving it. It was messing with the focus.

Yes, it was refreshing to have a little objectivity from opposing team announcers. And I heartily agree that Spanish, De Cain, Brennan, and Keller played outsized rolls as first years in the win.

Great win for Coach McCabe and the team. His plan to play season beginning non-starting players (in some cases, he had no choice) to get them PT, is paying dividends (#4, #21, #39, #36, #24, along with Spano and De Cain). Even though we were dominant at the X, won the ground ball war, it was the defense and De Cain who stepped up. Clearing was pretty good, still too many turnovers. And, Michael Ott has played a key role filling in and it was great to see him get the game winning goal from Leif Smith (who also dished out the assist in the last goal in the ODAC championship last year). Sorry to See #38 go down, we can only hope its nothing serious. All coaches led by Coach McCabe, working their butts off on the sidelines and it didn't go unnoticed.

I guess the Generals missed the tournament that year

1951 , Generals go 3-5. If Hopkins and Princeton were the 2 best teams in the country what would a lesser program have looked like. Who would be in the running for the oldest lax alumni from W&L

Bill Clements , class of 1950, was an AA goalie for two years. His son was as well, about 30 years later.

Thanks !
Great to see these clips, didn’t notice any guys changing hands but loved the behind the back shovel shot. No motorcycle grips on the face offs. Lots of changes in the game over the years as it’s evolved. How much of it was due to equipment and how much because of development of the players and coaches. Biggest change was plastic sticks for sure

Spano already has more ground balls so far this season than Hodgson had in any of his 4 years. Kid is having a great season
