pcowlax, I could be wrong. I was trying to get a sense of who was on the roster last year vs this year so I was hoping for some intel from Deerfield fans. It is difficult to sometimes integrate PG's into your prrogram. Im not saying thats why Deerfield has had their 2 very close losses but one wonders if they were there for a year or 2, would these early season outcomes have been different.

Not so accurate D1-2-3 New England West Rankings:

Interesting week already with some great games that may be a predictor of the season. Happy to have more intel and comments.

D1
-Brunswick holds the top spot but teams are getting close
-Loomis moves into the vaunted top 3 by knocking off Salisbury
-Is there such thing as a good loss? Well Deerfield had 2 and I moved them up as a result
-AOF reboot has started and had a tough loss to Tabor
-I should have given Westy a little more credit with their reboot
-Unfortunately the bottom of NEW1 has already been determined with NMH beating Kent which makes this race anticlimactic

D2-boarding
-Millbrook looking like the team to beat with convincing wins
-May be a down year for Pomfret with 3 bad losses arlread
-Bottom will be a race between Suffield and Cheshire

D2-Day
-GCDS lost to the top D2 boarding team Millbrook
-King played competitive against a D2 boarding team in Gunnery
-Hopkins may be the team that finishes last with a lost to a D3 team in Harvey without their best player

Thanks, and fantastic work with the list. Loss of continuity and unexpected loss of playing time may well adversely impact a team bringing in so many players. I was surprised really because that is a LOT of PGs. West-1 has typically treated PGs as the cherry on top, the few final pieces (2-4) to take an already excellent team over the top. 7 PGs is getting too close to being the team and, in just my opinion, not in the spirit of how the system is supposed to work or fair to existing players on the team. My metric for too many is admittedly like Justice Stewart and obscenity but that is too many.

I cannot vouch for the accuracy of the list but I would agree that if there is 7, that would seem a bit "obscene" in the eyes of Justice Stewart, Jon Stewart and even Patrick Stewart though Stewie from family guy may approve. Maybe it is possible that they were not comfortable with the growth of the underclassmen yet and felt they needed another year. Pure speculation on my part but I do hope it is not the beginning of an already unequal arms race for more PG's. L'ville seems to do OK without them though assuredly the majority of their top players are reclassed.

Stewy from "Succession" would not be into it. He seems like the type of guy who lost his starting job to a PG his senior year and then made sure he ruined the guy's life once they got into the corporate world.

The PG arms race has been well underway for years in NEW1. It is dominated by a certain subset of schools but, as your list indicates, it's going on at almost all of them. (Brunswick of course is the exception.) L'ville is able to compete at a high level without them (as has been claimed by other posters) thanks to Tsai's largesse and Posner's reputation. It'll be interesting to track how long those two factors remain significant enough to allow the Big Red to choose not to field lax PGs.

I dont think there is blanket reaction but as the arms race continues to escalate it will become similar to the Transfer Portal in college where kids will start moving from school to school if their playing time is affected. But I suspect the reaction will be very dependent on (and not in that order):

-the parent
-the kid
-how the coach handles it
-whether or not the need for a PG at that position was needed / overall depth

I've been following NEWest for 20 years now, and usually PG's come in when a team lacks an important piece.

As a parent, if the coach told me that 'your kid will have a miserable year on this team in this league, so we're admitted an all american as a PG who can help your kid and keep his position from hurting the other kids' efforts', I'd be relieved.

It'll be interesting to track how long those two factors remain significant enough to allow the Big Red to choose not to field lax PGs.
I wonder if it might go the other way, as integrating more PGs perhaps provides diminishing returns and more top players are looking to reclass and transfer earlier on. I have to imagine senioritis must run rampant with PGs. Especially in the age of social media and seeing all of their friends doing college stuff. If you get a reclass junior who spends two years at the school, he's probably a bit more invested.

I would agree 100% with this. Having talked to parents who are faced with decisions like this, I always say reclass is much better than being a PG because you spend more years with a team (it is more costly). But you get to play extra years against younger competition and your recruiting window is reset by one year as well. PG recruiting (for D1, not D2-3) is mostly over before the school year starts.

It doesnt make sense to PG as an unrecruited player because the lacrosse season starts long after most college decisions have already been made.It only makes sense to PG if you already have a commitment and the college needs to stash you somewhere for whatever reason (roster management, maturity, academic improvement, etc). And the senioritis is real. Many of the fall (Football) and Winter (hockey, basketball) dont even finish out the year at the PG school especially for football to get ready for Spring Football with their college.

Loomis looked good against Salisbury, particularly defensively. Salisbury had a big run in the 3rd which can happen, but for the most part the Knights had a difficult time breaking the LC defense down. Sarum moved the ball quickly around the perimeter but had a difficult time getting the ball inside. To me LC looked like a team that has been playing together for a while. I don't know if that's the case, whether they're returning a lot of players, but to me it looked like they understood each other and their system well. That's impressive when you consider the degree to which they were dominated on Face Offs. Wamabach must have got a lot of reps in the offseason with his older brother because he dominated FOs like his older brother used to. Ans Salisbury's goalie looked very good too. I think this game wouldn't have been as close were it not for him. Bottom line from someone that knows little about both programs, to me LC looked more settled than Salisbury. Both teams clearly have talent, and I would imagine Salisbury will find their rhythm before too long. LC already look like they have their groove early.

LC up 8-2 vs. TP after 1 qtr... LC still missing a few key players but seems like it's not slowing them down. Defense looks great. Offense is in-sync. Wouldn't count TP out but will be a tough hill to climb.

LC hung on but TP showed a lot of fight in 2Q and took all of the momentum into the half. After being down 8 - 2 at the end of 1Q, the Pride stormed back to make it 8 - 7 at the midway point. LC took control in the second half on what was a bitingly cold, wet and windy day. The Pelicans were missing their FOGO again today (along with two key offensive players) so the fact that they were able to battle TP's FOGOs (Penn State and Fairfield commits) to a stalemate is noteworthy. An away game at Brunswick on Sat. will be a significant test with little room for error.

Other scores:

4/1: Salisbury beat Millbrook 14 - 8
4/2: AOF beat Vandermont 14 - 12
4/3: DA beat Berkshire 18 - 7
4/3: Taft beat Kiski 11 - 10 Rhinos were down 10 - 8 in 4Q and rallied.
4/3: Belmont Hill beat AOF 13 - 6
4/3: CRH - NMH Cancelled
4/3: Hotchkiss - Westminster Postponed
