It could be argued (I would) that, with their graduation losses, Manhasset is doing well to be 5-2 at this point in the season. Syosset game looks like an inflection point. Between attrition and their upgraded schedule they were always going to be ending the year with more losses than their fans are accustomed to seeing. No excuse for yesterday’s game though. To take nothing away from an outstanding Darien team (They could play 20 times this year and Manhasset would not win) they played exactly like a group who had been up all night.

Looking like the class of all of Nassau
Sure do
7 to 4 final south side looked good all around

Saw a good bit of the game, impressed with South Side. I suppose they're now the favorites to win the power league at 4-0.
How would one learn about what, exactly, the “power league” is? Clearly the stronger teams are playing each other more this year than in the past. Apart from that does it have any implications for the playoffs/seeding? Teams still compete in their Classifications according to size, right?
The power league is:

Farmingdale
Massapequa
Port Washington
Syosset
Garden City
Manhasset
South Side
Wantagh
CSH

From what I understand, there will be promotion/relegation just like the girls have been doing for years, so the bottom team from this league will move down to league 2 while the champ of that league will move into the power league.
Per Nassau Boces the “Power League” comprises teams from all (A,B,C,D) classifications. After that, Conferences revert to A, B, C/D by size. I see no League 2 per se. Let’s say it’s clear, by record, at the end of the season which “Power League” team will be relegated. How would it be decided which team gets promoted? Inasmuch as all Conferences are equally eligible it seems that it would have to come down to a subjective decision.

Honestly I assumed they were doing it similar to the girls as that's what I'd been led to believe. I don't honestly know how they'd pick which team to promote if there's no clear second league.

State tournament runs by class not power league status. Have to conclude they must have a process to seed teams in each class bracket for the state tournament know that the power league teams might have worse records - There has to be a minimum record to qualify, right?

Of course the league alignments don't affect the class playoffs. The way the girls do it, the power league teams automatically make the playoffs and are seeded higher than any class teams that are in the lower leagues. I assumed it would be the same with the boys now that they've gone with the power league.

There doesn't have to be a minimum record. Qualification is up to the section.

Maybe the top finisher from the relegated team’s natural classification goes up. In that way you would always be assured of having at least one representative from each classification in the “Power League”.

Looks like Hills beat Connetquot 13-12. Connetquot looks like a real contender after beating Northport and playing Hills this tight.

FYI - Hills last championship was in 1962 (both Suffolk and LI).

They are probably a slight favorite to win the LIC this year.

Gotta have hope and combining the two high schools was way overdue. Too bad the reason was to eliminate the high level of bad blood between the two programs - East & West.

BTW Ray Enners was the captain of that 1962 championship squad.

I don't think there will be any relegation unless a power league team gets beat in the playoffs by a lower league team and even then it would be subjective. Without winning a County Championship it's going to be tough to overcome reputation

South Side's Melkonian "only" won 14 of 26 faceoffs. I think that is the least he has won the season. Maybe South Side went through possession withdrawal.

How do you all think the Power League's promotion/relegation system will impact team strategies in the long term?
