Rutgers 2019

When it comes to "sentimental favorites for making the NCAA Tournament", after three near-misses, the Scarlet Knights very well could be #1 in this category. They cut down on "bad losses", and their time in this discussion may not be for much longer. By the way, as I said in a post elsewhere, a big key for Rutgers is getting better and better with keeping top Jersey talent at home.

It will be interesting to see how Cocchi effects their D as their new coordinator this year. I think Rutgers may take a step back overall after some key pieces left but shouldn't be too much of a drop for the Scarlet Knights.

Hopefully we see him back and fully healthy. You have to figure that he obtained a medical redshirt from one of those years he was out so he may have two years left including this year.

The following comments are from a Coach Brecht email regarding Saturday's scrimmages: "To recap the games if the scoreboard was turned on was RU over UMass 16-7 as the scoring had Mullins with 4g, 1a, Coyne 2g, 1a, Daninger 1g, 1a, Sprock and Schachte with 2g, Mead, Eletti, Kamish, Stevenson, Sanguinetti all with a goal, and Gillespie with an assist. The Navy game ended 14-15 as Stevenson had 3g, Coyne 2g, 1a, Schachte 2g, Mullins 1g, 3a, Civetti 2g, Gallagher 1g, 1a, Rose, Sprock, Mead with a goal, Thompson with 2a, and Russo, Marron, Daninger, Gillespie all chipping in with an assist. In all, no injuries, good day of evaluation of our personnel against two good programs, and we raised just about $5,000 for Vs. Cancer to help fight Pediatric Brain Tumors." Think Rutgers lax is here to stay as in Top 20. Large expanding pool of NJ talent, solid academic standing offering many majors along with a large network in area and priced fairly well especially for in state students. Biggest detriment is spread out campus or lack of which deters some though most students enjoy attending despite. Amazing home record over the past few years , entertaining play and nice stadium have made for an enjoyable watch resulting in good attendance and no reason that should not continue. B10 is strong conference with tv network and coverage. Recruits take note of all. Finishing 2-4 hurt NCAA select but still a shame

Rutgers is tough to figure out. Injuries certainly set them back the past few years. But the Big10 is a tough conference to really break out.

You know that Maryland and Hopkins are going to be right there year to year. And Ohio State has established a really strong program over the past 10 years as well. I am still waiting to see Penn State and Rutgers break out and show they can win this conference. Tambroni and Brecht are both excellent recruiters and coaches.

It's been 14 long years since Rutgers had made the tournament and unbelievably, it has been 28 years since they won an NCAA tournament game. Being consistently in the top 20 should help them continue to get great recruits. Being in the Big10 does not hurt there either. Brecht has done a great job bringing in great players from Canada (Charalambides), Long Island (Trasolini, Mazzone) Utah (Casey Rose), Illinois (Tommy Coyne). But has not done so well in Maryland. Need to pry some of the Baltimore kids away from Tillman at Maryland. My $.02 as an outsider.

Ohio State has recruited well in Maryland too, so getting some of those guys would be difficult, but a big bonus for Rutgers. Are they even interested in maryland kids?

Rutgers has posted their 2019 schedule online. They've added some challenging opponents in Loyola and Hofstra as they continue to strengthen their out of conference schedule and improve overall SOS to one of the best. https://scarletknights.com/schedule.aspx?path=mlax

It will be interesting to see how Lacrosse Analytics preseason SOS estimate pans out once some games have been played.

We were planning on going to the game this weekend when it got moved inside, and they didn't allow spectators. I heard a few things, but without seeing the game have no idea who played starters for how long so no real context.

Rutgers highlights.

Charalambides’ moves remind me a lot of Mark Matthews or a Josh Byrnes.

Sort of that prototype, large lefty, Canadian attack.

Hope physically, he can handle this long season.
