I say one. It gets UNC into the tournament. HOWEVER, it helps Notre Dame by being a so-called "timely" loss. They rebound, will be a tad more hungry in the postseason, and win it all. Anyone agree that might happen?

No. NDs defense will shut down the UNC offense. They have trouble beating their man one on one against stronger defenses.

According to Lax Reference's RPI predictor tool, if UNC loses both games and Cuse also loses their next two, UNC will finish with the #14 RPI and have just the lone top 20 win over Hopkins. At 7-7 I doubt that would compare favorably to some other bubble teams with better RPIs and more quality wins. If UNC loses both games and Cuse wins both, that also might be bad for UNC, as in that instance Cuse would leapfrog them to #11 RPI and have the better overall resume. So the Orange could take their spot. I think the only semi-realistic scenario of UNC getting in at 7-7 is if Cuse wins one of their next two, which would be enough to keep UNC's RPI in a holding pattern around ~12 while simultaneously maintaining Cuse as a top 20 win, but not enough to get Cuse in instead of them. Gonna be a fun Selection Sunday.

does that simulator put a loss on a lot of other 15--25 teams in their conference tourney? where does syracuse drop to? i'll be very surprised if the cuse drops out of the top 20 unless there's some decent success by teams behind and directly ahead of them.

Yes safe to say there would be quite the uproar if UNC got in over a Big Ten or Ivy team many thought was better/more deserving. Especially since I'm pretty sure Breschi is on the selection committee.

As for whether UNC can beat Notre Dame, I think UNC will lose the first game. The second game could be close.

What are the expectations at UNC? Are there any? Bunch of talent that amounts to not much. Chris Gray woke up the program for a few years, but that’s about it. ND is talented and plays hungry, that’s why it’s fun to watch them play. UNC can’t matchup vs ND. What if Brown didn’t have the suspension, possibly another loss.

I mean, UNC has won a somewhat recent National Championship (sans Chris Gray), while Notre Dame has never won any. Not saying UNC doesn't deserve criticism, but the lack of any directed toward ND because they "play hungry" doesn't make sense to me. Why isn't there more criticism directed towards Corrigan?

Corrigan has not won a title, and he’s been close. But, UNC criticism is based on being 500 consistently w top5 talent.

Certainly agree they frequently underachieve with numerous top recruiting classes but I don’t see anything like top 5 talent on this team. Maybe that is misranked recruits, maybe failure to develop them, maybe just an unmotivated team (doubt that) but it’s not like they are rolling out waves of players this year that other top schools wish they had.

You go back and look at UNC’s recruiting class from 2021 - so this year’s sophomores - and while there’s no Spallina in there, it is just as deep and full of highly touted and highly ranked guys as Syracuse’s incoming guys from this year. You can critique the recruiting rankings if you wish, but they seemed to nail it with Cuse’s guys. None of the guys from that UNC class on the offensive/midfield side have developed into elite players.

Begs the question as to exactly what Breschi is getting out of them.

Concur. Watched some of the UNC Notre Dame game and the announcers called out another uncalled but blatant cheap shot retaliation by one of the Kavanaughs against Matt Wright, after a penalty was correctly called on Wright. I am no UNC fan, but it is easy to root against the Kavanuaghs, Corrigan and Notre Dame.

Assume 1. U have never talked to Kevin Corrigan and
2. You didn’t watch what Matt wright did at the end of the USA : Canada u21 final in Ireland this summer ?

I get that ND football is polarizing. Not sure Nd lacrosse is or should be .

That’s rich. A Notre Dame fan defending repeated dirty play from the Kavanaughs. They are what they are. Wright committed a penalty and correctly got called for it. Even the announcers were all over Kavanaugh for the completely unnecessary retaliatiatory hit after the whistle that went uncalled.

Kavanaughs pulled same stuff at end of UVA loss. Cheap shots left and right. Lots of talent, but not going to win any sportsmanship awards any time soon.

Why are they only misranking UNC's recruits and not Virginia's, Maryland's, or Duke's?

It happens to a lot of programs. Some are worse than others.
