Looking for Charlottesville VA info

My son is being offered a position in the Charlottesville area. Can I get some insight from those who know re: better locations to live, best areas for schools (particularly elementary as their kids are 5 and 3), etc.?

If it matters in that area of VA, for insight they’re an outdoor family. Like to fish, hike, and target shoot. Both he and his wife are right leaning moderates on the political scale.

Spent a lot of time. It far away on the I81 corridor and in Harrisonburg Va so don’t know about the schools but from the limited description of them it might make sense to live a little west towards I81 and Skyline Dr or South on 29 towards Lynchburg which is a fairly conservative town but with some scale.
