Hofstra looked empty today for the Rutgers vs. Penn game. Hofstra is usually packed for a quarter final. What’s up?

Attendance is down in early March because it's too cold ... attendance is down in late May because it's too hot ...

Looked like significantly more than last year's quarters at Hofstra. There was hardly anyone on the side opposite the teams last year when Rutgers played Unc.

Last year was an outlier because of covid. In 2019, attendance at the Hofrstra QF was 8017; this year it was 5814. In 2019 the teams were Maryland, Virginia, Duke, and Notre Dame, arguably a bigger draw for the average lax fan than Penn, Rutgers, Yale, and Princeton.

Attendance was 5,800 but def felt like more, especially for the Penn-Rutgers game,. Still an awesome atmosphere and Hofstra's 13,000 seat stadium is ideal for a quarterfinal setting.

Attendance looks way down for today’s final four. Place looks empty.

Different camera angle shows a very good crowd on press-box side.

Here, let me help out the HOTBED crowd . . .

1) Why go and sit in 78 degrees when I can watch at home in 75?
2) Why go if it might dip below 71 degrees?
3) Maryland really isn't a draw and has never been
4) Princeton only attends basketball games
5) Rutgers? For $5 a gallon?
6) No one goes to Connecticut for Memorial Day weekend
7) I heard that you needed to pass a Covid test 24 hours before and I couldn't find a CVS
8) Ukraine has me so upset I can't even think about lacrosse
9) There's not enough public transportation and I'm not going to add to our climate issues
10) Trump likes lacrosse, so I'm out
11) Dave Chappelle told a joke about being attacked by an STX stick that identified itself as a Brine
12) Bill Maher is showing signs of being red pilled and I don't have enough Xanax for the trip
13) I heard they might move a site to where I might have to fly to it and that's NOT FAIR . . . but I do think we should forgive the college debt of any Cornell Alum who attends
14) I'm still getting over LaxPower's demise
15) I spent all my money on a Charlotte North NIL scheme
16) West Hartford still has traces of Chernobyl
17) If only Duke was named to the field, I could have bought a ticket after they were eliminated in Round 1.
18) My pronouns were pronounced Dead on Arrival at the front gate
19) My wokeness Facebook Group said if I go it's because I'm a Putin supporter
20) Notre Dame would have been playing today and I only attend their Final Four games

Feel free to add!

My first thought was this looks like a syracuse/hopkins or uva game in the dome in march type crowd. Robust but you still see first row empty seats. Cornell is 12th on twitter nationally right now so people are engaging and watching despite it not being one of the bigger lacrosse fan bases.

I'm staying away because:
Since Ivy teams are illigit & ND discriminated against I won't attend the * games.

I never got the chance to be rejected by Princeton because my academic adviser said just applying would be a waste of time/money.

Everyone knows the Italian food in RI > Italian food in NJ.

In our dystopian future the Rutgers and Maryland campus residences will be fine concentration/prison complexes with very minimal renovation needed.

Connecticut's unique notable food is the steamed hamburger.😳🤢

I wouldn’t go because they wouldn’t allow entry to my cat. Twiggy is clearly bummed out.

Just from the parking lot this morning it looked like there were more people than last year. There were still a lot of people on the concourse and out in the parking lot when the game began and then the rain didn’t help things so it doesn’t show on tv.

It's the right size stadium in the wrong location.
NC$$ is going back to football stadiums (Philly and Foxboro) for the next four years, I believe.

Interestingly, might still be too big but Ga Techs football stadium max capacity is 55,000 and sits in midtown atlanta-one of like 4 spots around the entire city that the subway serves of value in its atrocious public transportation system. And it’s got a stop direct from the airport.

Announced crowd: 21,668.

It's the smallest for an NCAA semifinal without pandemic restrictions since 21,103 attended the 2001 semifinals at Rutgers.

Third-lowest non-pandemic restriction semifinals since 1995.
