Good times and great venue for lacrosse. Felt like half of Annapolis was there pulling for STM.
Very true! I am hoping that Navy Lacrosse gets good enough so that they can have energetic crowds like we saw that evening.
Given the PL, B1G & BE scheduling constraints, I don't expect to ever see the large warm weather weekend crowds we used to enjoy vs MD, JHU, & G-town, except for Army-Navy in odd numbered years.

Unfortunately I think you are correct which I think stinks for the game.

I just made a separate post regarding the next programs to win their first national titles. I didn't include Navy. But how awesome would it be if I am wrong!?

Zero chance of Navy winning a National Championship. ZERO.

I think if Loyola and an Ivy could win a national championship in the last decade, a service academy can win. I'm aware of the disadvantages (no Canadians, no immediate PLL opportunity, extra intense demands of the SA commitment), so it would take all the stars having to align. But I still think it's possible -- although I'd think the COVID-year transfer portal boom would have to subside first -- so after 2025.

So what is so different from 2004 that Navy has zero chance? The JHU dynasty? The Syracuse dynasty? If anything Navy has a better chance. Good lax players no longer just come from a few states. Yes if you are good enough, a good SA can find a way to get around district/senatorial limits (ie non-congressional sources) but the spread of better players to different states since 2004 makes lax recruiting easier at SA’s.

My question is, what will Amplo need to do in the near future to quiet any people who are doubters?

The lowering of physical standards and the emphasis on a less masculine philosophy has lowered the status of being in the military for physically competitive high testosterone individuals undercutting sports of speed, coordination and strength.

Continue .500 or better vs Army & .500 or better over all, make the PLT every year, not lose PLT games on home field, win a PLT game.

2011-2019 was a rough stretch. Stockholm syndrome. Expectations have been lowered.
NAAA has de-emphasized MLax, while promoting other sports.
Conf scheds have given Navy fewer big game opportunities.

The times of the Herndon pole climb are dropping to frightening lows as fitness levels plummet. Of course it won’t be long before they abandon the tradition (everybody knows why). Just not as elite as it used to be.

https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Herndon_Monument

Wiki will at least have to remove the climb time records by year.

That era being a rough stretch is debatable. I believe they won the PL regular season in 2015 and 2016, and were within a goal of the final four. Are the quarterfinals realistic now?

As realistic as they were in '16, sneaking in as the last bubble AL.
Winning the PL regular season should matter, unless it just provides the opportunity to lose & be eliminated at home.
Navy last won a PLT game in 2010.

Navy has a very good history. What's been done to de-emphasize the sport and emphasize other sports, and what are those sports? Just curious. You always like to see the Naval Academy do well.

WLax, Soccer M&W, B-ball M&W, baseball. -- several have very nice new venues on the Yard & they are promoted more than before to the Brigade, on tv, on the hometown radio network, ESPN+, hometown newspaper & podcasts. Much more coverage of the other sports. That's a sign of success in the other sports. NAAA emphasizes that USNA competes in 33 varsity sports (more than Army) & dominates the overall star competition vs Army. MLax used to enjoy the same significance as football. Now, it's just one of 32 other sports in prestige & emphasis.
Among younger & non-lax alumni, expectations for MLax are lower, ...& more rational.

As a lacrosse fan and the NA as well, that's unfortunate to hear. The history there is too good to not spotlight.

The history & tradition is still emphasized, there just has not been a return to the consistent success of pre-2011.
The structure of the game has changed. The PL is much more competitive. I was responding to what Amplo will need to do to satisfy the doubters.
My sense is that the post Meade era, & how it transpired, has been a sobering experience & has fostered more rational expectations.
Amplo has made a concerted effort to reach out to the lax alums & MLax fan base. My sense is that he is connecting.
