I believe these are the most commonly cited selection snubs under the modern criteria:
2010 Georgetown out, Notre Dame in
2016 Rutgers out, Navy in*
2017 Army out, UNC in
2019 Cornell out, JHU in
2022 Notre Dame out, Harvard in
* Everybody remembers 2016 for Hopkins getting in over Rutgers despite having lost to Rutgers twice. But in fact Hopkins was comfortably in the field based on their early season wins, including over Navy. The committee said the final spot came down to Navy, Harvard, and Rutgers, in that order.
There are probably some others I'm forgetting. Which of these was most egregious? Which was most defensible?

Re: Rank the snubs
2019 is interesting because it really kinda came down to Cornell and Maryland. Hopkins beating Maryland twice the last weekend of the regular season plus having a 4 spot better RPI vaulted them over Maryland and making it a Maryland-Cornell debate, which was a bit tougher on the Big Red.

I thought the debate was GT - ND in 2010. That’s certainly what I recall on LP. Rip HoyaboyHomer wrote: ↑Wed May 11, 2022 4:42 am I believe these are the most commonly cited selection snubs under the modern criteria:

Though I think many - myself included - felt that JHU had a (typically for them) inflated RPI, not unlike Duke's this year. A bunch of losses to teams with good records, no real signature wins until those back-to-back Maryland wins late in the season.jrn19 wrote: ↑Wed May 11, 2022 6:40 am 2019 is interesting because it really kinda came down to Cornell and Maryland. The committee singled out why they selected JHU and not Cornell (two wins over top 10 or 12 or something like that RPI team - both Maryland - to Cornell's one). I don't remember them singling out the Maryland selection for any special explanation, but it's possible I'm misremembering.

Yeah, you're correct -- blame me for posting too early in the morning. I've edited the lead post to reflect that.HGK wrote: ↑Wed May 11, 2022 8:06 amYes that was the issue GT/NDFarfromgeneva wrote: ↑Wed May 11, 2022 7:07 am I thought the debate was GT - ND in 2010. A few more for consideration:
2013 Drexel out, RPI 11th
2016 Villanova out, RPI 15th.

Anything done after midnight doesn’t count- I made that rule up as gospel so you’re all good. Somebody probably thought Hop didn’t deserve to get in that year anyway. Re: Rank the snubs
We Navy fans were stunned to get in. Having been the #1 seed & hosting the PLT, we figured we were probably done after losing the in PLT semi at home to Army. Turns out the extra Quality Win that got us in was the season opener vs Air Force which finished 14-2 & also got into the ncaa tourney. Loyola won the PLT AQ.Homer wrote: ↑Wed May 11, 2022 4:42 am 2016 Rutgers out, Navy in*

Re: Rank the snubs
Rutgers 2016 schedule was unimpressive...I don't think they were snubbed at all. Rutgers had two wins against in-conference Hopkins that Rutgers fans pointed to at the time. Hopkins 2016 had a handful of significant injuries, and it was clear early on in their schedule (to Hopkins fans) they would not be very competitive the rest of the season. Also, head coach Pietramala was out for a chunk of the season due to his health. Maybe Rutgers should have been in over Navy or someone else, but this is your run-of-the mill tournament selection dilemma, not some huge, legendary snub.

Re: Rank the snubs
ND wasn't snubbed.
They played average teams twice and went 0 for 4 against teams that made tournament.

Not a lot of semi long memories because the GT exclusion was worse than 17 & 19.

towson and nd, who were like 7 and 8 rpi. maryland at 12 were hop's 2 best wins. jhu had one other top 20?
then they made up some gibberish about more top wins for hopkins. it was really about sos (and they mentioned cornell's sos). sos is 2/3 of rpi. it was about rpi. imo.

Wanna hear more conspiracy theory re: eye test?
It’s possible the committee members soured on Cornell when they saw the efficacy of double team face guarding Teat strategy in the ILT
