Delaware at Duke

Post by molo »

Can the once defeated take down the undefeated? Was the lids to Jax just the normal Duke early season stumble, or does the team with an abundance of offensive talent suffer from a lack of depth on the other end of the field?
Unless this goes into OT, I should be Anne to catch it before class.

I like the Hens chances if they are all healthy and they can keep
things reasonable on face off, with the Hens defense they can
keep things close.
Whether Delaware can pull it out, or they’re subjected to a
similar 2nd half onslaught as the Pios were, is another matter.

I think that there might be a mentor vs mentee vibe going on between Danowski and Deluca. The older Coach D will be familiar with the younger Coach D's strategy and style. Also, the relatively. balmy weather in Durham should help Duke. Delaware has an impressive squad this year, but I'm not sure that the loss to Jacksonville was a death knell for the Blue Devil's season.

Delaware will have more than a couple challenges today in Durham.

The Hens are a bit undersized on offense. I have watched a lot of Duke lacrosse this year and they are really physical, particularly the poles. If Tye Kurtz misses this game, that will put Clay Miller (5' 10" 160 lbs) on the righty wing. He is super quick but can get banged around by big athletic defensemen, and Duke has no shortage of those.

The Hens FOGOs are not great. Their top guy, Logan Premtaj is a career 48% guy, but all of the backups are in the 30-35% range...not good when you are going against Jake Naso.

Goalie Matt Kilkeary has had a couple subpar games sandwiching a terrific game against Mt. St. Mary's when he had 16 saves. He is the Hen's most experienced goalie, but DeLuca will most likely have a short leash with Kilkeary today. He has a four-star freshman Paul Reidy on the bench. Reidy did some relief duty against St. Joe's and had 5 saves while giving up just one goal. But is he ready for a game like this?

Finally, the Hens have yet to play a complete game this year. They can look unstoppable for a 10 minute stretch and then go into a period of turnovers and mental mistakes. We have yet to see the Hens final product due to injuries. But if they play to their potential and minimize mistakes, they can make this a fun game to watch. I am looking forward to seeing Owen Grant match up with Brennan O'Neill. Grant did a nice job on Virginia's Shellenberger and Shutz this fall while playing for Team Canada. I am sure he is looking forward to the challenge. February lacrosse, gonna be fun.

I think it'll be a tight game at least in the first half, but the second half is Duke's deep pool of talent will shine through and the Hens won't be able to keep pace.

Should be a high scoring and fun game overall, I'd like to see the Hens pull one out but that may be wishful thinking since the Devils already got their Feb L out of the way.

Looks like Duke’s plan was to jump early on the Hens.

Duke looks sharper/crisper without Sowers...not shade on him at all. Hard to explain.

Critical goal, the Hens are getting production from the right
guys, Mark Bieda, Mike Robinson, Tye Kurtz, JP Ward,

they’ll need to get more out of Cam Acchione.

Zone works, until it doesn’t. :D

I’d expect to see some more transition pushes by duke if UD sits in zone all day, unless Duke just wants to work on it longer.
