Man, I was really close to taking Schutz over McAdorey. Spent pretty much the entire day of my pick agonizing between the two (and Kavanagh, who I ruled out relatively early but he was still my third choice). Given currently available information (Schutz #1, publicly available information from practices and scrimmages) I certainly would have gone the other way if we drafted today. Schutz will score a ton of freaking points. I still think McAdorey is a freaking awesome player but I’m not sure what role he’ll fill/how much offense he’ll play.

Have we thought at all about going back to the draft-in-the-spring approach? To be fair, if we drafted in the spring then Brad Sharp definitely wouldn’t have made it to my pick. Of course there are trade-offs with any decision like draft timing. But I do think it would be net good to get more complete information before the draft.

I think the January draft is better. It's more obvious who is available to be drafted, so there are fewer arguments over whether someone should be eligible to be drafted. I also think I do better (relative to the competition) in the one night draft.

Today’s IL article did make me feel better about McAdorey - it mostly highlighted offensive capabilities and I thought it definitely suggested that he’ll focus there, though he will be helping all over the field. No doubt he can produce at a high level, but it’s really hard to take a guy #1 with such role uncertainty. I wonder who the last #1 pick would’ve been where the big question mark is how you’re going to play him. Was Jordan Evans drafted #1? Did people realize at the time that he would play D Mid?

Ahhh the 2014 draft brings back fun memories. Anyone would be happy to pick Connor Cannazaro in the 2nd round, right?!

Of course, he then transferred to Denver and were forced to drop. Then Denver was added to the league the following the year and he was drafted again at the top by another team. That was tough to overcome.

McAdorey is a fine pick. It's much harder to build a strong midfield than attack and you'll have a great chance at 4 years of fantasy production at midfield from him. Most midfielders only get you 2 years of fantasy production.

We have four first round picks on the roster and all are midfielders.

I lost Brennan O’Neill when the draft ordered was revised!

Even knowing what i know now, based on his HS career, I'd take Mazza with my first pick. Like you, NC, so much potential...

Watched the UA AA game the previous spring and the amount of deference that the players showed him as well as his size next to them... I was sure he was a quality pick and... Not so much...

Might be bad news….looks like he has a chance to play on Sundays… not sure how long he is going to fool around with lacrosse if that is the case.

So, I googled Shane Simpson (who left UNC after his junior year to play in the NLL) and found his bio on Calgary's website.

No 'love loss' with UNC there:

"I was lucky enough to start during my freshman year and we had a stacked team but we lost in the first round of the NCAA Finals. That’s kind of the UNC curse, we’d have awesome recruits and basically choke."
