Interesting choice by David Metzger, Ned; I hope it works out well for him. Wittenberg fell to 0-2 over the weekend. Wooster kicks off Wednesday at John Carroll, who will also be facing Wittenberg, OWU and Denison this year. Denison's next opponent, Rhodes College, is already 0-3, so I expect another home win for the Big Red.
OWU finally posted a season preview:https://battlingbishops.com/news/2022/2 ... pre_4.aspx OWU is slated to host Centre Saturday.

As long as we’re sharing game highlights, here are the reels from Wabash’s first two games. These are really well done and fun to watch (Denison’s as well)!

Ah. I wasn't too shocked by that, so I wasn't sure if there were other rumblings or scuttlebutt. I mentioned earlier, I think they are young and have a history of not keeping their large classes around too much. It looked like JCU is the reverse and has a fair bit of upperclassmen and only a handful for freshmen .

It is early to tell, but the 4th spot for the playoffs could be very much up for grabs. I'm not too impressed with the starts from Wooster, Depauw, and Witt (to some extent). Allegheny is still very young with only a couple of seasons under their belt. Oberlin didn't play last year, so hard to tell how any previous improvements will carry over from a year off. I think Wabash will get better, but I think the Little Giants and Terriers will be round out the regular season. This is not a ranking, just some gut reactions.

I would assume it's in regards to their coach being "on leave" and having an interim. Was pointed out to me yesterday, not sure what's happening

Switz - I expect you’re right that Wabash has more to prove to earn a spot in that conversation for this year, but clearly headed in that direction.

Here are highlights from their loss to Alma:

Coach Koch and his Denison Big Red move to 2-0 - that’s the good news. The not so good news is these wins have each been by 3 goals over teams you would suspect they would run away from. However I’m still not sure what we have this year because a deep dive into the stats shows maybe they have been playing better than the score line would suggest. In each game they have easily won the “grit” stats … GBs, FOs and shots and they faced 2 hot goalies as the opposing goalies have collectively made 36 saves! What does stick out though and is hard to deny, is they need to start better. They have been outscored 8-10 in the first half of the 2 games but have won the second half 14-6. So kudos for not getting down, sticking to the plan (or getting back to it) and finishing these games off. If they had played 60 full minutes in both games, we would have seen the final scores that would have me more confident as they approach the heart of the OOC schedule.

So yeah, good job on the win boys. But now get back to work because you have a real test coming up against W&L on the road. I suspect if you let the Generals get out in front of you in this next game, being able to come back in the 2nd half won’t be a given.

Go Big Red!

Rhodes is playing a crazy schedule. 24 hours after losing to the Big Red, they get shellacked by Transylvania at their field -- 20-8. They are now 0-5.

Our son talked to Wooster (years back) and visited the campus. Coach seemed to be a decent guy from what I could tell.

Denison had a nice win today against W&L .. looking more like the Big Red we’ve come to expect. That is until they lost focus at the end of the 3rd Q and allowed an 11-2 lead get whittled down to an 11-7 final by giving up 5 unanswered goals through the last 17 minutes of the game.

But I’m nitpicking, the good news is we got a glimpse of what this team can do when they get off to a good start at the beginning of the game and not wait until the 3Q to start to play Big Red lacrosse. Now we have 3 very tough road games against all ranked teams. Win or lose these next 3, there is no doubt now Denison will be ready to take on the NCAC again this year.

Go Big Red!
