Oh i don’t forget at all. If I hadn’t been so chickens!t, I’d have bought every piece of real estate I looked at. As it was, my buddies had far more brains than me and thirteen years in, I get to see the fruits of their intellect, driving past their investments. It hurts every day.
But that economic catastrophe was credit driven, plus northern states hadn’t lost their heads yet with socialist-level taxation, police hadn’t been defunded, and school unions hadn’t yet grabbed Democrat politicians by the cojones.
Today, the price increases here are due to a basic supply and demand issue. 1,000 net hew immigrants every day, and that’s just the legal ones. Most of those are Republicans escaping the destruction in the north.
And the guy who gets to take the credit, though admittedly he is simply managing the mainsail with the wind at his back, is one Governor Ron Desantis.

DeSantis stops pushing COVID-19 vaccines as virus skyrockets in Florida
https://www.orlandosentinel.com/politic ... story.html
For most of the COVID-19 pandemic, Gov. Ron DeSantis has followed a set strategy: protect elderly residents at greater risk of serious illness and death but impose no other restrictions and prevent others from imposing their own. Now that strategy is being tested as never before, as cases and hospitalizations surge around the state.
TALLAHASSEE — When COVID-19 vaccines first became available at the end of 2020, Gov. Ron DeSantis held several events throughout the state urging people, especially the elderly, to get the shots.
But since May he’s said little about the need for vaccinations and has stopped conducting events in person. Instead, he’s relied on Florida Department of Health ads to get the word out on cable, streaming services, radio and social media.
As the pandemic surges in Florida more than two months later, Democrats have stepped up their calls for DeSantis to get out in front of the push for more people to get the vaccine.
“Leading the nation in new COVID-19 cases is not something to be proud of, in fact, it is downright shameful. Because it didn’t have to be this bad,” Agriculture Commissioner Nikki Fried told reporters Wednesday. “While some may want to stick their head in the sand and pretend that this pandemic is over, or even worse — that this is just a seasonal virus that will go away — we are very much still in a major health crisis in our state.”
Fried is running for the Democratic nomination for governor in 2022, seeking to oust DeSantis from his seat. She said she will release statistics on new cases from the CDC on a more regular basis, sometimes daily, since DeSantis’ Department of Health stopped issuing daily COVID-19 reports two months ago, switching to weekly reports. The CDC numbers, though, are given to them by the DOH.
Fried also is running PSAs on Fox News urging people to get vaccinated, with ads that feature herself suggesting DeSantis won’t tell people to get the shot.
Other Democrats have also called for DeSantis to take the latest surge more seriously ...
Government regulation works to save lives. Laissez-faire policy only leads to death.

The wishful thinking here is hilarious.
Every time the left hits Desantis, his poll numbers rise.
Meanwhile, this virus ebbs and flows, and will ebb in Florida again, while the state remains open and maskless, while Democratic state Covid numbers also ebb and flow while they lock down PLUS impose mandatory mask laws. Will MD be here in two months regretting his transparent DDS ploy?

Re: Ron Desantis (The Desantis Doctrine)
I sure hope to come to Florida in November.
We were able to manage through the last deadly spike, unvaccinated, given the tough guidelines at my mom's club and our diligence, so we should be able to do it now vaccinated...maybe with a booster by then.
But I also sure wish that we'd be able to feel comfortable having my turning 85 year old mom go out to dinner at restaurants with friends.
But we were speaking just politically. Here's what I can pretty safely say, my mom's fellow residents (avg age 75) are predominantly Republican. Not all, but predominantly. Nearly all-white, but not exclusively. Pre Covid strong Trump support. Didn't like his tone, but still supported. Good for their pocket books and "he loves America". During Covid, that reversed. Downright angry. And began to get angry at local businesses pooh poohing virus.
That's being transferred to Desantis. Not yet at full blown anger stage, but many aren't there this time of year. If this thing continues to rip through Florida and he continues to look like he's on the wrong side of public health, I think this transfers to Desantis. All the more so if he continues to appear to be preening for a national audience, a GOP Presidential primary.
I don't know that such is enough to keep him from reelection as governor, but it may...and the anger about the anti-vax, anti-mask, anti-science crowd is getting stronger and stronger in the country as a whole.
Again, just focused on the politics of it, if the virus continues to rage and the conspiracy theory idiots continue to claim 'freedom' as their rallying cry, there's going to a similar backlash for all those on the wrong side of it.
I think Desantis is in hot water politically on this one.

Yep. Its positioned as the "rights and health of the majority" vs the "rights of the minority to be stupid". It is getting organized. Hearing more and more about it. Polls are all showing majority support for mandates.

As we've noted, tell us what you think so that we can get our money down on the opposite call.
Right now, this is merely my speculation. I don't know what the virus is going to do, but had predicted we'd see it raging in Florida...looks like that's now happening or at least beginning to happen. I still have a question as to just how bad it will get down there, so any prediction about political fallout is related to that and how Desantis responds.
Right now, he's positioned very poorly if this thing rages for long and lots of people die.
