C2C 2021

Post by DeepPocket »

The CAC, as of today, is officially rebranded as the “Coast to Coast Athletic Conference.”

Interesting angle, given DIII’s already limited travel budgets combined with the added travel concerns of the present...

What a geographic mess...

Seriously though, UCSC ‘Banana Slugs’ is the best nickname in collegiate sports IMHO.

And on that note, Christmas shopping is complete...

In all seriousness, I think we are all pretty curious to what this looks like, both competitively and logistically. I read "destination-based championships" so maybe that includes conference playoffs at a single spot rather than the multiple mid-week and weekend travel that we are familiar with? I'm still uncertain about what the actual seasons looks like and conference play leading into playoffs, but I guess we will eventually find out.

I believe only the former CAC teams have lacrosse, so I don't think it will impact travel or much of anything for lacrosse. But I am definitely interested to see how this plays out with basketball, track, baseball, and most other sports.

I would love to have some of the member institutions explain the rationale for this..I certainly cannot see any.

Teams from California, Michigan and Massachusetts are going to travel to Buena Vista, VA to play a game--how does that make sense?

The conference will not have regular season schedules. There will only be conference tournaments to determine champions and AQs. The schools will set their own schedules; basically independents in a setup similar to NAIA's AII.

Your question is a good one, regardless of how it plays out.

That said, SVU is in its last year in the CAC. They are headed to the USA South conference in 2021. I'm guessing not a lot of travel is going to happen to BV.

Saw SVU's schedule...

Lynchburg
Washington & Lee
CNU 2x
Salisbury 2x

Not to mention Roanoke, Hampden-Sydney, St. Marys, Whittier and a few more.

At least they won't be able to say they weren't tested!

UMW has posted their schedule, but it's not accurate any longer. They are not scheduled to start practicing until 2/15, but are waiting for the administration to confirm they will have a season. HUGE letter & petition campaign this weekend to "let them play!" Should know more soon. Supposedly Coach has a backup schedule to deal with their late start.

Dang. For sure.
With all the NESCAC teams bowing out, the 5 team C2C could be the deepest, most difficult conference- top to bottom, in the nation this year...
15 games. That's a heckuva tough schedule. Lots of good programs within a 3-4 hr bus ride.
Would have loved if they had played W&L and Noke too. They could have been an "associate" member of the ODAC...lol

This forum has been awfully quiet lately... any predictions or news about the season?

Salisbury and CNU have games scheduled, haven’t looked into the others. The Sea2CNU conference has a nice ring to it. Or perhaps the CNU2Seagull conference.

If you haven’t been paying attention...you should take a look at SVU’s schedule:

http://athletics.svu.edu/sports/mlax/2020-21/schedule

2 games against conference teams as well as playing the top 4 ODAC teams (W & L, Roanoke, Lynchburg and Hampden Sydney). Add to that the recent addition of defending champions Cabrini, along with Colorado College and the Knights are looking at a schedule full of top-notch teams.

They had planned to scrimmage VMI last weekend, but that was cancelled. They should be scrimmaging Liberty tomorrow before rolling into one of the toughest schedules I have seen posted for the Spring.

Nice little write up on Berkman and Salisbury coming into this year. Reason why I put here instead of the Salisbury thread is that it says in there, Salisbury in the C2C is a temporary thing, with them moving to be independent in the future. I hadn’t heard that yet.

19-2 SMCM romp over VaWesley. Defense looked great, caused lots of turnovers, and starting goalie had 10 saves in first half. Big test Sunday.
