Jordan Williams was named men’s lacrosse coach at Penn College, it was announced Monday. Williams is Penn College’s first full-time lacrosse coach and will lead the program in its inaugural NCAA Division III season in 2021.

He’s not even going to be able to go through one full recruiting cycle before having to field a team? Do they have a well established club team or something?

School should do well- reasonable cost, tremendous breadth of occupational majors, little academic barriers. For the right kid this is a home run school.

I say this with no animosity or disrespect. They will forever be #2 in Williamsport, PA. Lycoming is a much more established program. I just think that Penn College will follow a similar model as an Alfred state or a Lafayette College, where there is a school right there in town that will always draw a better student-athlete.

State College cost could be appealing but not enough to put them a head.

Just an opinion. Great to see new programs though.

What are you referring to? Please explain …

Just suggesting that in some towns there is always a lesser program. It is tough for the lesser program to gain traction.
Lycoming > Penn College
Alfred > Alfred State
Lehigh > Lafayette

I just think Penn College will be a “little brother” to Lycoming in Williamsport.

Again my opinion in response to Penn College being a great landing place for D3 lacrosse players.

Yeah true. 17 miles away. Same conference probably not a great example. Cabrini > Eastern is better example. But point is made.

I think you are vastly underestimating fit in these examples. If a kid from Pennsylvania wants to get a degree in say Welding Technologies and doesn't want to pay private school tuition...do you really think they are going to choose Lycoming over Pennsylvania College of Technology for the more "established" program? I don't think they are going to be recruiting many of the same kids unless the only thing a kid is looking at is going to college in Williamsport, Pa.

There are certainly differences in some majors. But there is about 65% overlap in majors. The comparisons to Alfred state is probably most fitting. They too used to be a 2 year school. They are newish to the the 4 year school game. They are state tuition compared to private right down the road. Lycoming discount rate gets the pretty close to state tuition.

Wish PC well, but I was only stating that this isn’t a “homerun” as someone mentioned earlier. A very niche school that will attract a small niche clientele.

Their school of engineering technologies is unique- imagine selling that to PA and NY public school kids who are looking at private liberal arts schools or higher end engineering schools they don't have the academics to get into. HVAC design, landscape Architecture, Heavy equipment power generation - welding technology etc etc. Not your traditional engineering school- and damn sure not a Liberal arts school. I don't see Lycoming recruiting anyone looking here anyway- completely different universe.

Sounds a lot like SUNY Delhi.

YAAAA Penn Coll a mess in their overall addition of men's lacrosse. Why it take so long to hire a dude if such a great school? Why is it the OWU second guy not the first? Truth will come out this is an up hill battle but one any young coach with a plan should be excited for, I guess.

Also heard they aren't giving the HC an assistant?? Oh well, again - perfect job for a young guy.
