Was just about to ask, where 's Birsner going? But 33, you answered it. https://vmikeydets.com/news/2020/6/9/bi ... coach.aspx

There are also some assistant openings out there—Air Force OC and UMBC DC, for starters.

Hearing another one might open up in the Big Ten this summer.

Calling Coach Pietramala ... might he be interested in the VMI opening? Obviously, if a head coach position opens up in the B1G ... won’t that be fun. ;)

The B1G opening I was alluding to would be an assistant. Don't think it'd be a job Petro would take.

VMI might actually be an interesting fit for Petro—doesn't have military experience but he has been rather demonstrative over the course of his career with his support for the armed forces. By all accounts Birsner is a good guy but he couldn't get VMI out of the basement...obviously there are challenges to recruiting there but perhaps Petro can help them get to a bit of a higher level. Would definitely qualify as a "project" that an experienced big-name guy like Petro might enjoy taking over as the second act of his career, sorta similar to Tierney at Denver.

Stop... Former VMI HC willingly left to take a DIII job at Washington College, doesn't sound like a place a top flight coach is looking for. They are underfunded, under followed and relentless underdogs, but, until the commitent from the top ramps up, it won't get better. BTW, That Lexington VA relocation isn't exactly going to be an easy sell to the family either.

Def a nice place

But for Petro it would be a $200,000 pay cut and about $1,000,000 cut to the budget from what he had previously.

Don't compare this to Denver, there's a reason the coaches are leaving for D3 and HS jobs

There are two reasons that I know of for people leaving many college level coaching jobs for high school: 1) quality of life, you eliminate the recruiting related travel, 2) money - the high schools can pay similar salaries as colleges (except the rarefied ACC/Big10 type programs) PLUS offer control over a league or club program that can double a coaches salary.

Petro could make half a million if he started his own club program - can't do that if you are a college coach....

Maybe money isn't the most important thing to him right now? He has said several times he wants to get back to coaching at the D1 level as soon as the right opportunity opens up. That very well may not be VMI—but I'd take him at his word that he wants to coach in college again, and quickly.

IMO, head coach candidates for each school:

Hampton: Chazz Woodson, Rick Sowell, Nat St. Laurent

VMI: Andrew Athens, Richie Meade, Jon Thompson

Sounds like VMI is hoping to have their coach in place by July 1, when Birsner officially leaves the program. But neither program is really desirable.

I like Woodson for Hampton.

The B1G spot is for the OSU Assistant/OC - Sheridan out. Two offensive assistants in two years.??

Some potential candidates for the Ohio State OC job. Just spitballing here, have zero information:

- Bobby Benson, formerly of Hopkins
- Stephen Brundage, Hobart
- Peet Poillon, Marquette
- Steven Boyle, Drexel
- Ryan Danehy, Bucknell
- John Crawley, Lehigh
- Tim Cox, Robert Morris

Myers seems to be having some trouble hanging onto assistants. Location? Pay? Hard to recruit there? Personality clashes?

Not shooting the messenger here.

Is this not a glaring problem in today's volatile racism topic? Only black coaches for this position?

Hampton's an HBCU school. It makes 100% sense to hire a person of color as head coach. There's one person of color as a head coach in men's college lacrosse, and that was at Hampton with Devoe until he left.

Who else would you add to that list then?

I would add Jake Bernhardt from Vermont
