MASS HS Lax
Re: MASS HS Lax
I saw that starting in January the MIAA is going to try and play winter sports, then football a season, then spring sports. How much is lacrosse season going to be shortened? Any early reactions from coaches, players, etc?

Spring sports season is listed as April 26th through July 3rd. Normally the season start the third week of March which would be March 15th this year. The new start date takes away six weeks at the beginning of the year and adds on two at the end. Nets out to losing 4 weeks. If the MIAA could tighten up the playoffs, maybe they could get a week back.

With the whole PLL/MLL merger, The Cannons did what they had to do...
Let’s just hope that The Quincy Stadium they invested in continues to be a centerpiece of Mass Lacrosse.
I think one state championship was played there.
There was also a fall ball tourney for charity between some local college teams a couple years back.
Let’s hope for more

The @MIAA033 is meeting tomorrow to discuss the spring #lacrosse season.
Topics include COVID modifications, and rules.
Here's to some hopefully good news coming out of that meeting, considering last year's spring season was upended completely.

Hope they keep faceoffs. I've seen some concern from MA coaches about how late the season will run (basically until beginning of July with playoffs) playing after football. It's tough to keep teenagers from making teenage mistakes in June.Matnum PI wrote: ↑Tue Jan 12, 2021 4:20 pm Peter Wilson@PetesWire

Any updates on post season play for the MIAA?
Can teams schedule outside their league during the regular season?
Thanks!

Re: MASS HS Lax
I believe they decide today whether to run a full state tournament or just sectionals.

1st Round of NC State Play-offs completed yesterday and 2nd Round tomorrow. I'm hopeful for MA...

Full state tournament approved for the spring! I'll link an article once one pops up, but great news for the players, coaches, and families.

Great news!! Thanks for the update.
Next hurdle: Will I be able to watch my town team play?

From Matt Feld’s Twitter “The Executive Office of Energy and Environmental Affairs (EEA) is expected to release updated guidance Monday that drastically raises the amount of fans allowed at outdoor high school sporting events. It’ll likely eliminate the rule that fans must be a family members of a player.”MA Lax Fan wrote: ↑Fri Mar 19, 2021 7:50 am Great news!! Thanks for the update.

Globe's first boys top 20 of the season. The traditional powerhouses plus a few Catholics fill out the bulk of the top 10. Anybody have preseason thoughts or predictions?

SJP is loaded this year and should be either 1 or 2. #2 Hingham plays at #1 LS on Saturday at 4pm. Should be a good one.
The Catholic Conference is a great schedule this year with top teams playing each other twice - BCH, SJP, Xaverian, and SJS.

BC High looks very good as well. CC should be very competitive this year.

Re: MASS HS Lax
My thoughts -
LS and SJP are loaded and are a step above. Excellent coaching, disciplined program and confident as hell.
BCH is loaded but coach still needs to prove himself.
Hingham has an insane youth program that somehow doesn’t translate at the HS level. Their youth teams carry 40-50 kids per grade and dominate in the TPL. They send armies of kids to play at the college level but they don’t really win State Titles. - and yes I know they won a title a few years ago but that will be the only one for a long time.
Franklin is on the rise and will be a steady top 5-10 team in coming years. Great youth program, they keep their kids in town and they always have great athletes.
Wellesley shouldn’t be in the rankings. They have struggled under newer coach.
Duxbury is always scary and truly never has a down year.
I’ve heard Longmeadow is good this year. It will be very telling when they play Xaverian tonight at 7:00.
Saw Winchester play this past summer. They are decent but will not get far in D2.

Where is the best place to track MIAA game results? It used to be so easy on laxpower to scan all the games and their outcomes.
I just opened a Twitter account but even that appears to be spotty when looking for general results.

Re: MASS HS Lax
Inside lacrosse has a bunch but not nearly as good as Laxpower used to be.
Danny Ventura on Twitter posts lots of scores.
Bostonlaxnet on Twitter also has many of them.
Why did Laxpower shut down? It was so much better than everything else!

BC High v. Xaverian will be livestreamed at 5:30 tonight. Should be a good match up.
