The new 1a/2a class system won't really impact who will hold the top spots in the state, but it does give one of the large schools a chance at a championship when the heaviest hitters are still the smaller schools.

Also, here is a relatively new site that is working to cover girls lacrosse in Florida -

Will be nice to see a little mix up with the new class system giving some schools an opportunity to compete for their District. But,when all is said and done, all roads to the final four still go through Central and South Florida. Unfortunately, if things stay as is, the 2 best teams will meet in the Semis once again (AHD and LHP) I think AHD takes it this year especially with LHP losing their best player to grad. LHP still has plenty of firepower but will be down a notch this year, If healthy, I see AHD winning handily in a revenge game. The big question will be who will represent the other side of the bracket. Likely candidates to the finals are Haggerty , Vero Beach, Cardinal Newman, Pontra Vedra and Naples. Although all had great seasons last year, the inherent weakness in their strength of schedule gave a false sense that they were better then they really were as demonstrated in last years one sided losses to a talented Benjamin team. Benjamin will take a Barron Collier like slide into the abyss this year with the graduation of the majority of their talent. They still have an unbelievably good goalie who is a game changer but will not be enough to make a difference. They don't make it to the playoffs. IMO, AHD wins the championship in a blowout against ????... doesn't really matter.

In the 1A, nobody is going to be able to come close to beating LHP or Heritage. They will play one another in the semi and that will be the real championship game. As for who wins, I'm betting on LHP. They are simply deeper than Heritage- I think they will actually be better than they were last year.

In the 2A, Hagerty will make a run and could possibly win. Bartram Trail could go deep. I never bet against Vero so they could be back in the mix again too. St. Thomas is also in this group although the revolving door of coaches in this program hurts their long term success.

Anyone know why none of the newspapers in Florida have picked up on the Caitlyn Wurzburger statistical watch? Nobody is publishing Heritage’s box scores and the Palm Beach Post only seems to care once April 1 arrives.

Frustrating! Is there no Delray Patch?

My guess is its early in the season and AHD doesn't play a competitive team for awhile. Scores right now are blowouts with stats to match. They will start to play competitive out of state games sometime mid March.

Most teams are not posting stats right now.
Curious as to why you want to follow Caitlyn Wurzburger’s stats?
Stats in blowouts hold little water.

It's because our site (www.topofthecircle.com) has a toteboard for all-time leaders. She's nearing 1,000 points.

In 1A, there is American Heritage and Lake Highland Prep in a league of their own. Everyone else just isn't at that level.

2A could be really interesting this year. STA, Hagerty, BT, Vero- along with maybe a dark horse or sleeper team that hasn't really made themselves known yet. It really is anyone's championship in that division.

HS GIRLS FL: Today’s Best Games (Tue 03/16/21)

These are Today’s Best Games. The #3 Vero Beach vs #1 Lake Highland Prep is big. Both teams are undefeated and the winner is highly-likely, though not guaranteed, to be the #1 team in the state.

Dean vs. Robinson. I was at the game the first time their teams played each other in 2012, Vero Beach v. McDonogh. Still probably the biggest high school girls came in Florida history.

It was. Both teams had multi-year winning streaks on the line.

I got invited to the pregame tailgate. Later learned that Sandy Koufax was at the tailgate as well. Didn’t get to meet him. Really wish I had.

That was Taylor Cummings’ senior year and Megan Whittle’s sophomore year. Needless to say, it was an exceptionally strong McDonogh team. I think the final was 15-5. Whittle scored on a behind the back shot. Later that year, Vero beat SSSA.

Vero and McD played several years in a row, as I recall. The 2013 contest was much closer than the 2012 game.

These were Yesterday’s Best Games. There are numerous undefeated teams in Florida and… Lake Highland Prep is clearly the #1 team in the state.
