What are the games to watch this weekend?

#9 VaTech vs #10 Duke Saturday 9 AM
#9 VaTech vs UNC Saturday 1 PM - UNC's first game
#19 Florida State vs #17 UCF Saturday 4 PM - can one of these teams give Georgia a run for their money out of the SWLL this year?
Penn State vs UNC on Sunday

After this weekend there should be some shifting in the poll with a few more teams able to be voted in after their first games but I don't think any real moves will happen unless there are some big upsets

Major mistake by the poll voters to have UCF drop off of the top 20 after beating FSU over the weekend and FSU stays in the poll

Duke is overranked at 10 ... 3 spots above a JMU team they lost to and 6 spots over a Colorado team they lost to.

Hopefully as we get farther into the season some of this gets fixed but poll voters need to take their role seriously and evaluate records and keep up with games.

Smaller slate of games this week but there are some fun ones in there!!!

Saturday
BYU vs Utah - Looks like this will be for the top of the Rocky Mountain Conference
Colorado vs Colorado State - whoever loses this will likely have a tough time getting a bid for nationals
Cal Poly vs SDSU - Should be a great west coast match-up!
Delaware vs Maryland and vs Towson - First games of the year for Delaware

Sunday
UCLA vs SDSU - tough weekend for SDSU but should help show where they belong in the west coast pecking order!
Cal Poly vs Saint Mary's - Match-up between two teams that made nationals last year, but haven't seen any scores for STM so far this season ...
Miami of Ohio vs WVU - will be interesting to get a comparison between divisions of the WCLL

Any other games people are looking forward to?

Excited to see how the month of March plays out…Hopefully some real contenders will show up and nationals ranking will start to form. I like seeing movement within the rankings regularly, but know spring breaks may halt a real legit rankings showing till the end of March.

Also checked out ASU’s schedule and they beat St Mary’s 15-5, lost to Colorado State 7-11, and lost to SDSU 8-17.

Is it time yet to bring up some more of these D2 teams for some fresh competition? Denver and Loyola have been at the top of D2 for at least 2 years…what’s protocol for that? University of Utah and Duke seem to be holding their own.

Huge wins for SDSU over Poly and UCLA should jump them up into second with BYU and Michigan close behind if not tied.

BYU seems to be comfortably leading the Rocky Mountain Division

No posted scores for Delaware yet even though they were supposed to have had games. Anybody know if the schedule is correct?

Delaware posted on social media that they swept this past weekend, but didn't mention any scores.
UMD beat Towson, JMU and PSU recently and lost to Duke a couple weekends ago only by a few.

BTW as far as I know when D2 teams move up it is totally up to them. Might be some sort of rule about winning multiple D2 championships and school size but I don't totally remember.

I am pretty sure that in the WCLL when teams first join there is usually a plan for them to transition from a probationary period in D2 into D1 if they are a big school. Or maybe that's just how I assume it works. Haha

Delaware losing by 1 to Northeastern makes the Northeastern vs Univ of Utah game on the 30th a whole lot more interesting!!

SDSU seems like the top team out west based on wins over Poly, UCLA, and Santa Clara.

Michigan has been off for a bit and will return to action next weekend in Colorado. Will be interseting to see how they do against BYU in a championship game rematch.

Georgia has some tough games this weekend against UNC and UCF, we will see if they have corrected their issues from California. I would imagine that UCF is going to bring their best especially since the pollsters haven't been giving them any votes despite solid growth over the last few years.

Pitt is back in action this weekend with games against Penn State, Notre Dame, and Delaware. Should be some solid games and see what they have done with their time off.

This time of year is when it always starts to get exciting!!! Any other big games coming up I might have missed?

I am really glad that there are a lot of games this weekend to hopefully start to get a real idea of what the poll should look like and begin to see the nationals picture start to take shape.

Games I am most excited for:
Georgia vs UNC vs UCF : This invitational should give a good comparison across divisions between the South and the East Coast teams
Pitt vs Delaware vs Penn State vs Notre Dame: Another invitational that will give good comparison scores between the WCLL and the East Coast teams.
Virginia Tech vs JMU: The MAWLL teams are always so close to each other that its tough to know who comes out on top for ANY in conference games

Then next weekend all of the games going on in Colorado will be great to follow ... hopefully a snow storm doesn't ruin it again!!

UGA 13-UCF 11. It was tied at Halftime and 11-11 with 5 minuted to go. UGA won the draw and when into a stall. UCF had no choice but to press out and give up a goal to play for the draw and UGA capitalized. The last goal UCF sent the goalie to double to get another draw.

UNC-13-UCF 12: Back and forth game UNC got the game winner with 2 minutes to go and the the UNC Goalie came up with a big save at the end to keep it form going to over time.

UGA 16- UNC 10: I only saw the first half but it was a back and forth game for most of it.

WCLA was a tough one. For the top teams, we used the 2018 rankings. For the rest, only because there are so many teams, and we're less knowledgeable about the WCLA, we used the LaxPower Rankings and... Those were old. But better than nothing. And, as a reminder, even if the Starting Points are off, they're adjusted after every game so the teams can find their right spot relatively quickly.
