Ament made that offense go. Losing him is affects that team in a huge way. Will they totally rebuild that offense or keep it schematically the same?
Some of the things they do on offense are similar to how Tambroni has always liked his offenses to be run. They don't run a lot, they're not a big fastbreak team, that's been his thing dating back to Cornell. When he had Pannell at Cornell he was totally willing to put the ball in the stick of one guy and let him run things a lot, which is what Ament did. They don't really have anyone on the roster who's built for that though. Pretty much everyone else is a goalscorer. Malone is still a sophomore and was feeding the ball more this year, maybe he could do it.

But I'd expect a lot more dodging from the midfield and 1-on-1 play on the perimeter - another thing he used to do at Cornell a lot - with Ament gone and no real conductor, but a bunch of dudes who can shoot it and are skilled (Kelly, Willard, Foulds if he returns.)

Good points. I do wonder, though, about how that kind of offense would work in the shot clock era. Some of those midfielders he has aren't the biggest/most physical guys out there. Hard to know which ones could run past a defender. I always love teams that want to attack the Terps from the alleys. The Terps' defense is constructed to stop that. PSU is going to need to figure out who can win one-on-one match-ups moving forward because Ament was really the only person who could do that on a consistent basis. Could count on him to draw a slide. Maybe Malone can be that feeder more. Or maybe they flip the perspective and have the feeders coming from up top to down low. It's going to be interesting to see.

O'Keefe was showing a lot more ability to dodge this year, but of course he's a senior too. I like Willard a lot too, he showed some real flashes as a 4th attackmen. Traynor can dodge from up top. But it's a lot different when you no longer have the gravity of Ament and there's more attention. I agree on the point about how an offense like his midfield-heavy driven would work in a shot clock era, a lot of that was predicated on holding the ball a lot and having no shot clock to force you to go to the goal quicker.

Ultimately, they'll be easier to guard in 2021; even though if O'Keefe and Foulds return they'll still have a lot of talented players. Their incoming recruiting class doesn't look to add a lot of immediate impact players. The 2021 class does though, so I think the bigger question is can they reload quickly to get back to the Top 10 in '22/'23. They were so senior heavy it probably isn't happening in 2021 either way.

See IL published their AA list in what Maryland seems to have dubbed the “What-if” year

Logan Wisnauskas (Third Team),
Jared Bernhardt (HM),
Anthony DeMaio (HM),
Roman Puglise (HM)
Brett Makar (HM)

Think both Wisnauskas and Bernhardt are underrated in the list.

Without a cupcake schedule, they couldn't put video game numbers like certain *cough, cough...UNC...cough, cough* players in certain programs could.

Terp seniors:
Bernhardt
Mintzer
Shollenberger
Welding
Carrara
Masci
Harrison
Grill

Bernhardt and Grill are starters, with Masci being a regular on the 2nd midfield.
You would think a lot of effort would be made to keep Bernhardt and Grill, although Bernhardt is apparently looking at football. Hard to know about the rest. Shollenberger and Welding, I believe have had injury problems which have hindered their play.

The next year (2021-22) could be the more problematic year for Tillman with Wisnauskas, Fairman, A.DeMaio, Shockey, Puglise, Rahill all being juniors this spring.

The Terps have 12 freshmen listed for this fall, and then 12 verbal commitments for 2021.

One does wonder in general how many Jr. will do the extra year. I am not being specific to Maryland, but across the board. They will be a year removed from this pandemic and looking at their future.

A new 2020 recruit Daniel Kelly Calvert Hall College High School Attack. Decommitted to UNC

Kelly choosing the Terps gives them two 5* attackmen in this year’s incoming class and 2 of the top 12 players in the country (alongside Eric Malever.) Whether Bernhardt chooses to return for another year or not, going to be a lot of options on the offensive side of the ball next year and beyond.

2021 won’t be as hard as 2022 if the current class of Jrs decide to stay for a fifth year. A powerhouse on offense but what will be the roster size and who decides to transfer out. So many individual decisions ($$ as well as playing time) to come as well as what the BIG will allow.

2022 is gonna be more challenging than next year for sure in terms of losses, but could be doable still with all of the talent on offense. Maltz and Brennan will be 3rd year sophomores, Kyle Long a 4th year junior, Makar a 4th year junior, Sherrer, Geppert as 3rd year sophomores, McNaney in goal. Then Malever and Kelly will be sophomores; also have Sawyer, DeMaio, Pallonetti all super talented who didn't feature a lot this year. Not everyone pans out obviously, but the talent will be super deep on offense and bulk of defense will still be there. Even with potentially no Logan, DeMaio, Fairman; they'll still be in good shape.

Let's not forget Jack Koras among the sophomores. He might be the best of the 3. Daniel Kelly has the great shot, but Koras is a bit more dynamic.

Looks like the Terps won't have to worry about a stretch shooter for the next 4 years. Good lord, that kid can sling it.

Koras is a tremendous passer off the dodge and a great athlete, definitely dynamic. Don't know if he's the finisher Malever or Kelly are (even taking out the shot) but he brings a lot himself for sure. Moral of the story, they have loads of tremendous young talent and options, probably the most they've had since the 2014 class came through.
