This close to the season, they needed to. Usually, teams have an assistant step in as the interim head coach until a new one can be appointed. The only assistant last season was a grad assistant, and she isn't listed on the 2022 roster either.

Meanwhile you have D1 football coaches leave their teams mid-season for better opportunities and you don't hear a peep about their commitment levels.

The reality is that coaching is a job. Yes, it involves student-athletes and relationships, and a dedication to the school/program/players, etc...but at the end of the day it is a job and each coach has to make decisions that are in the best interest of her/his self/family.

it is possible to have a differing opinion here - and if the cover is that "well, D1 football coach leave their teams mid-season, so then D1 wlax coaches can as well". One example doesn't justify the other and in this case not even equivalent.

It's more than the personal self interest you list - "best interest of her/his self/family" There is also the interest of the student athletes, assistant coaches, the school and the community. That's what makes coaching a different occupation - and if you are not up for a commitment than other to yourself, then don't get into coaching get into sales or something else.

I will not disagree that timing of coaches departures is challenging, especially when they happen so close to the start of the spring season.

So coaches need to stay in a position until the players/assistant coaches/school and community deem it ok for them to make a career/family/life decision?

What about the coaches' commitments to his or her partner/children/parents/siblings? If a coach has to move out of state to help take care of an ailing elderly parent he/she lacks commitment??? And it's not a lack of commitment if he/she were to leave a sales job?

Your argument is flawed, coaching is a job, albeit a very important one.

Don't know much about her, but looks like a decent young coaching find with two D1 Head Coaching gigs previously. Looks like she was building something at Fresno State when the university cancelled the program. Good luck to her!

There have been some slow starts out there by historically dynamic teams. Wonder if it's way too early to warm up the hot seat yet? I think in some situations the pressure cooker must be at least plugged in!

Notre Dame could start the season off at 1-5 with their next three games being against Northwestern Syracuse and Virginia. Maybe they will be 2-3 if they can beat Virginia.

Inside lacrosse "top recruiting classes" not helping out anyone whose team underperforms.

I don't like to see people lose their jobs but the players at ND deserve better. It is that simple. Coach has been over her head since day one and everyone who is close to the sport knows it. No player is happier and more relieved than Andy Aldave.

Virginia has historically struggled against Notre Dame if I'm not mistaken. Definitely wouldn't be surprised if ND wins that one.

Looking at the ND schedule:
They will need to run the table with lesser ranked opponents.
One win over UVa or Duke just to achieve a winning record.
Assuming losses to UNC and BC
Long season but tough start.

Hyperbole much? Obvious you have an axe to grind or some sort of personal dislike of Coach Halfpenny.

No axe to grind, I don't personally know the woman and I actually hope she stays at ND forever since I am a fan of other ACC schools. I have heard this directly from coaches who compete against her and players that have played for her. It is what it is and it's not the only program that regularly has great talent but under performs because of coaching. UF falls into the same category as well. Here is just one example of why they will never win. BC focused on NW super fast player Gilbert 1st game of year and held her to 1 point. ND let's her run wild with no clear plan, she scores 7 goals and they lose a heartbreaker by 1. They now risk not even making the NCAA tournament with the talent they have. If it makes you feel better UF let MD's best player run wild this weekend with no defensive plan as well and they got smoked due in part to her 10 points.
