3-2 Drexel, solid defenses, dopey shots, dopey penalties
for Drexel, they’re lucky UMass hasn’t taken advantage,
you just can’t make mistakes against UMass, half.

5-2 Hofstra half, Dutch have controlled the game, some
good saves I’ve seen from Casey.

Just a couple quick points, as in just a few short more
days its on to more difficult CAA games.
UMass’ match up on Donnelly, they shut him out the last
game, so the match ups weren’t bad, but it could have
been that the coaches told him to keep his head up
and to be more a feeder.
Drexel changed up their middies, again, and brought
out the freshman Luke Tomak who got two goals. Boyle
must have seen something where he thought a larger
midfielder would add something.
A key for me was shutting down UMass’ freshman Dillon
Arrant, he got the usual number of shots off, but they
also harrassed him as well on the shots.

I just didn’t see much of a difference between the two
teams.
Good solid defenses by both, I think.
The difference was that one stretch at the end, Sykes
and Tierney, just a brief opening where those two were
able to get open.

I don’t know.
Jyasi Watson hasn’t gotten any time I believe, good
ratings, out of that McCallie school, they’ve produced
some good players.

Towson - Hofstra game was not pretty. Turnovers... 40 combined. The America East is a better Conference in 2021 when you look at all the pieces.

UMBC beat up Vermont pretty well even though
the score was close.
They’ve got a muscular very underated
close defense.

No surprise, the CAA weekly awards,
Robinson, Donnelly are obvious choices,
But I think they screwed up :)

CAA MEN'S LACROSSE WEEKLY AWARDS - APRIL 6
CAA Announces Weekly Awards – April 6

RICHMOND, Va. (April 6, 2021) – Drexel freshman attack Sean Donnelly is this week’s winner of the Colonial Athletic Association (CAA) Men’s Lacrosse Player of the Week, while Delaware sophomore attack Mike Robinson earns CAA Rookie of the Week honors.

PLAYER OF THE WEEK:
Sean Donnelly, Drexel
Freshman | Attack | Bradenton, Fla./IMG Academy
Sean Donnelly continued his strong play with two goals and six assists in Drexel’s 12-11 upset win against No. 18 UMass on Saturday. He had two goals and an assist in a key stretch in the fourth quarter and recorded six of his eight points in the second half. His eight points were the most in a game for a Drexel player since Ben McIntosh had eight back in 2014. The rookie leads the Dragons with 17 goals, 12 assists and 29 points.

ROOKIE OF THE WEEK:
Mike Robinson, Delaware
Sophomore | Attack | Peterborough, Ont./Culver Military Academy
Mike Robinson recorded a game-high eight points on a game-best seven goals and one assist in a 16-11 home win over Fairfield. Robinson led the Blue Hens’ second half comeback efforts by scoring five goals in the third quarter alone to give his team the lead that it would go on to hold for the remainder of the game. His seven goals put him at 33 for the year, which leads the CAA and is tied for first in Division I. Robinson has recorded a hat trick in every outing this season

That is the second week that Robinson was named the "rookie" of the week. Technically, he is a red-shirt freshman. Robinson has played just 13 games as a Hen and has scored 50 goals along with 8 assists (avg of 3.8 goals a game).

He will most likely fly by Curtis Dickson in a few years.

Tye Kurtz has 63 goals and 48 assists halfway through his redshirt sophomore year.

Canadian pipeline is alive and well.

It's a shame the CAA only has two weekly awards, many conferences have defensive and specialist awards as well. Safe to say Owen Grant would have a few defensive POW by now.

With all but two teams (Towson and Hofstra) halfway through the 8 game CAA schedule thought it would be interesting to look at CAA conference-only stats to see how things are shaping up for each team. Matt Kinnear wrote a summary of conference races and the last paragraph about the CAA didn't sit well with me.

"It seems unlikely that there are multiple bids, but say Delaware wins out and loses in the conference championship game, can the Hens get a bid? This is where some non-conference games (UMass vs. Army or Delaware vs. Villanova) would have been good to get some more data."

MORE DATA?!!! I am not suggesting that Delaware will win out and then lose in the conference championship game. But if that scenario were to play out, the Hens would have beaten Drexel twice, Towson twice, Fairfield twice, UMass at least once, Hofstra at least once and would have won a first round CAA game against a VERY good team. Their record would be 12-2 with an season-opening loss on the road to Mt. St. Mary's when 22 players including 7 starters were unable to play due to COVID protocol (I do understand that that game still counts).

What more data would they like to see to let a team that is not in the ACC or Big 10 into the tourney?

Thankfully, Kinnear is not on the committee. That type of thinking is what screws conferences like the CAA. It shows a complete lack of respect for a conference that generally performs well in the NCAAs. Three of these teams have made it to the final four and five of the six have made it to the quarterfinals in their history.

Army would have to lose big.
But then that would mean Loyola.
Lesser possibilities with Georgetown.

The problem is, the ACCs get 5,
leaving only three, Rutgers, a Patriot, a Big East,
unless they say under .500 is out
putting Syracuse at risk.

Yes,
those jack hammers do breeze through, gloss over
this glaring point.
Three title games, a DII national title.

The “ratings guys” whiffed on Robinson,
well maybe not a complete whiff.
Which was odd since Culver Academy was maybe the
most watched program during that 3, 4 year stretch.
Robinson was a 5 star, top 10-20 coming out of Culver,
but with Owen Hiltz there, all eyes were on Hiltz.
