Right. I found her far more credible as telling a painful truth than Kav.
He weaseled around stuff that he could have copped to, but nope, he chose to lie and pretend he didn't know...
Given that comparison? Gotta go with Ford.
I am chalking this up to four things: 1) you simply never watched her speak (if you did, whoa) 2) you are unaware how her family have described her 3) you are unaware that her best friend Leland Keyzer (sp?) disavowed her story and 4) you seem to have a personal animus toward Kavanaugh.
You are incorrect on all 4.
1) I watched the entire testimony, both hers and his. He lied multiple times, lost his cool multiple times. She certainly came across as believing her story to be true. Whether it was accurate or not is another question, but I didn't pick up any cues that she was insincere.
2) I'm aware that her family is split, didn't want her to go through this. Enough pain.
3) Keyser didn't "disavow", simply couldn't confirm-huge difference.
4) Definitely no animus toward Kav. My next door neighbor knows his parents well, met him several times, high praise for them.
I've made clear that I'd have been torn had I been voting. The sincerity and seriousness of her story was strong. On the other hand, early errors in judgment, potentially under heavy drinking...weighed against an adult life that appears very different, over many years. Tough call.
However, I felt that he was being quite insincere at times in his testimony, potentially directly lying. And his loss of cool weighed heavily against him...
for this job as well.
So, all in, I'd have been a 'no' vote, need to have a better candidate for the lifetime gig. I felt that Thomas was an enormous mistake (didn't matter what side of the political spectrum, I'm an R) and that sense has been borne out subsequently. It's not as if there aren't other candidates who would be acceptable jurists at that level.
But awful that the Kav family had to go through the spectacle. Same for Ford.
