Why would the Big Ten kick Hopkins out?
The Big 10 is operating lacrosse on an island. There is no reason to think that they would change that. Unless those ACC teams join.

I think the school to watch is Notre Dame. They are the only other school that is an associate member of the B1G ... for Hockey.

So If ND joins as full time B1G members, there would be no need for associate members in any sports. That could be an issue for Hopkins. Otherwise, they will probably be ok.
There’s also the possibility that ND football joins the B1G while the other non-hockey sports stay in the ACC.

There is a lot of chatter about ND joining. Personally speaking, the only question is a matter of when.

I am not sure what operating on a lacrosse island means. Lacrosse is a B1G sponsored sport and treated like any other.

Maryland is very tied to Hopkins and vice versa. The reason that Hopkins is in the B1G in the first place is because they of course wanted to be, but Maryland was adamant they go for lacrosse as well when they joined I won't say that was a sticking point to joining because we all know football is the decision maker, but that was most certainly part of the negotiations. It was a no brainer. Maryland wants to destroy Hopkins on the field, not off of it.

There is no reason to kick Hopkins out. They are a storied program, perhaps not what they once were, but still relevant, and they are Maryland's rival and Maryland is theirs.

The only way Hopkins is leaving is if they choose to, which would mean they are deciding to downgrade the program which is unlikely, or the NCAA tries to enforce the rule that all your programs must be in the same division, which is also unlikely considering they already did that.

You think Hopkins has more say in the conference than the conference itself? I've seen enough conference realignments and shuffles to be skeptical of that. Plenty of conferences have wiped out associate members.

Especially with a conference as big and rich as the Big 10, in a niche sport like lacrosse, with a school that is D3 otherwise, athletically.

The "big football" conference specter looms large in this. The Big 10- could easily be done piddling around with associate members. Or it could be rich and big enough that it doesn't even register on their radar.

It seems the Contract between the parties is being ignored. Can contract be brought out for a price? Sure. But there is a contract binding on both parties

quite awhile ago, but no one probably remembers exactly what contractual obligations were announced for the long term, other than the continuation of the espn deal for awhile.

plus some say contracts are made to be broken.

That can't happen. NDs contract with the ACC says that as long as their other sports are in the ACC if ND joins a football conference it has to be the ACC. The only way for ND to join the B1G for football would be to pay the exit fee to the ACC for their other sports first.

The Big Ten would never allow a school like ND to have their football in the B1G and the rest of their sports elsewhere. It's a deal breaker. There would be no reason for ND to want that anyway.

Hopkins doesn't have more of a say other than what they are doing, which is the point. The conference has no reason to ask them to leave, and though they have no reason to leave, that's more feasible than being asked to leave.

Why would the B1G ask them to leave? Why would they voluntarily leave and where would they go? They are already in the most stable, highest profile conference there is.

:?

It can happen. There may be fees that need to be paid or contracts that need to be renegotiated or modified, but it can happen.

There’s a reason contract law is one of the largest practice areas of the legal profession. :?

It’s Notre Dame football that the B1G wants.

Not saying this will happen, just that it could.

The B1G won’t agree to anything and everything Notre Dame might demand, but I’m confident the B1G will be very accommodating if the Fighting Irish get serious about joining the conference in some manner.

Huge. Two-time HM AA.

Smith-Szuluk-Mazzone is quite a group of defensemen. 97 GBs and 60 CTs between them last season. Could go from a top 20 defense to top 10 with even just average goalie play.

Excellent transfer.

Good student and an HM AA.

This is terrific news. Thanks.

I remember and have talked w some people directly involved. There are people who remember. I have mentioned it a couple of times.

The original contract was for five years. At which time Hopkins could leave if it wanted to leave.

I mentioned above contracts can be unwound gor psyments etc if the dedire is there.

I know key aspects of the original but don’t know if the contract was amended after signing by the current administration.

Personally i don’t see any compelling readon the BIG would wamt to alter the contract and have not see one offered. l

Hopkins was 18th in Adj. Defensive Efficiency last season. With the Alex Mazzone addition from GTown, in addition to Scott Smith entering his JR year, Jays have a few AA poles to go with some good shorties. They could be a Top 10 D next year…if they can ever find a goalie
Hopkins D has been the one bright spot since the coaching change in the last two seasons; it’s gone from 50th to 33rd to 18th in Adj D but adjusted save percentage has been 49th and 43rd. Have only finished in the Top 20 in Adj Save % one time since 2015.

Just my opinion but why would the Big Ten ever want to boot Hopkins out. It would be idiotic. The BIG Ten owns the eights to the Biggest Rivalry, over the years the most watched, and the most significant games in Lacrosse and on the average it's not even close.9000-11000 attend at Homewood and lately 11000-15000 attend at Maryland.I am not a TV ratings expert but even after the one sided Terp victory at Homewood this year --more fans commented to me about watching that game then any other in the year. And yes I have many, many Hopkins friends. There is no other Lacrosse game that rivals Maryland --Hopkins. Plus the Big Ten seems to average 2 of these games a year. Fortunately, Hopkins is here to stay in BIG 10 Lacrosse.

Invent a time machine, go back to 1984 and return with Larry Quinn, suit him up on Saturdays and just hope that no one notices.

At this point that might be easier than for this team to just recruit a good goalie
