You really don't understand how much money has been given to the .01%....still waiting for the golden shower to trickle down.policies that in the 20th century alone killed over 100 million ppl world wide.
Serious question, why does being wealthy (in the .01%) bother you, it does not bother me. And to be honest, history has proven neither side really does anything for the poor. The best we can hope for is higher employment....a rising tide(jobs) lifts all boats(each of us).

It just seems like the politicians have pitted us against each other, and many have fallen for it.

How absolutely absurd, read our history. Look at the Progressive Era, (Child Labor) the New Deal, (FHA), the G.I. Bill, the Great Society, (Head Start). I could go on.

Expansion of Home Ownership through the FHA is a "Feel Good Entitlement"? I guess if that's the case you could label almost anything that way from airports to Public Universities.

You don't think an private sector alternative to the FHA wouldn't have been found to accomodate all the new home buyers

Great question, serious answer.

History has proven that neither side has been "successful" dealing with the poor....although we certainly have spent a lot of money trying. Agreed that jobs that pay a living wage are key and go hand in hand with education and good/affordable health insurance. How many jobs should someone have to work to put food on their table and a roof over their head?

I was raised with a wooden spoon in my mouth by a bronze star, hourly wage earner, G.E.D. father and a school teacher. Solidly middle class - one week vacation at the beach annually.

Professionally, I deal with people and their money. As someone who feeds at that trough, over the years, I have gained a high level of cynicism regarding the .01%...for various reasons.

IMO, this group, and those that serve them, are running the world to suit them....I am really sick of the amount of control that power and money can buy.

Trump's administration - policies and people, i.e. the swamp, is the personification of what is worst about capitalism, corruption, self-dealing - all for more money and more power....at the expense of the remaining 90%.

Right. $2 Trillion in new handouts and counting...not one penny of it for defense. Billions for farmers to do nothing.

And every penny of it borrowed. You run your household like that? "Hey kids, I'll vote for this way of living any day of the week. Now I'm going to go to the bank and borrow money we can't afford to pay back. Hold my beer".

You and Bandito wouldn't know what conservative policy was if it fell on you. And you would HATE the economic effects. Which is why, of course, your Republican leaders keep right on borrowing, and making government bigger and bigger. You boys are cheering!

You've taught your leaders that you don't care about socialism and doubling the size of government so long as they tell you "this isn't a government handout".

You don't care....your morals are entirely up for sale. So long as the economy is good? You could give two figs about all the handouts. And boy, your Republican leaders have heard both you and Bandito loud and clear.

1. No, I did not.

2. Look at Home Ownership versus renting before and after the FHA. Look specifically at the 1920's with regard to length of mortgage and interest rates. What the private sector offered wasn't nearly as successful.

Of COURSE that's why you got from that statement. The .01% are jumping for joy to hear this absurd understanding of how our economy works.

Know what I hear? Why are Amazon and GE paying no taxes whatsoever, while "a fan's" family business is getting hammered with taxes?

Got an answer for that? Because it gets worse with every passing year. And as I've written many times, it makes no difference who is in charge....Dem, Republicans, whatever.

What you and Bandito don't understand---and I don't know why----is that you are begging, pleading to pay for Amazon and GE's share of taxes. They've tricked you into thinking "someone else" is the reason your taxes go up.

No, I don't. Surely you understand that. It's why no one even TALKS about getting rid of FHA or Fannie or Freddie.

60% of loan originations last year were from some form or another of government program.

Picture this: what would happen to the value of your home if 30% of all home demand disappeared? That's what would happen if you got rid of these Federal home program. And that's why they'll never go away. The entire economy is built on homes. New construction. Bank loans. ReFi's. Using equity to buy crap. It's the ONLY asset the vast, vast majority of Americans hold.

Sure. Safe to say everyone here is in the top, what, 10% of earners in the US?

America looks pretty sweet from up here. But you understand that you can say that about pretty much ANY economic system in almost ANY country, right?

Sweden. Mexico. Russia. England. All have entirely different economic systems. And the top earners do just fine.

We're not talking about life for the top earners. We're talking about life for the bottom earners in America. And I don't believe for a second that you don't want to help remove barriers to success for your fellow Americans.

Income and wealth distribution -

1. Top 10% of Americans have 76% of the wealth, average $4 million. Families at the 90th percentile saw their wealth grow by 54% between 1989 and 2013.

2. The rest of the top 50% have 23% of the wealth. Those at the 50th percentile only experienced a 4% rise during the same period.

3. 50% of the population split the remaining 1%. And those at the 25th percentile actually saw their wealth drop by 6%.

Average income of the top 10% - $118k

Average income of the top 1/3 - $65k
