CNBC. BREAKING: China confirms it is suspending agricultural product purchases from the U.S. in response to Trump’s new tariffs, could hit ag imports with tariffs

Who cares? We're not farmers, right fellas? So it's just a game.
Oh, any day now, China'll cave, right boys?
BTW, serious question for TLD and other finance wonks: how is it what China does is currency manipulation, but America's QE's aren't?

No -- it's to trade with the rest of the world, bring manufacturing back to the USA, & learn to live without China's cheap junk until they start playing by 1st world, developed nation rules. We've got too much unnecessary stuff anyway. China's never gonna come around if we just continue going along to get along. They need us as a market more than we need their stolen junk knock offs.a fan wrote: ↑Mon Aug 05, 2019 7:19 pmSo now that you two realize that the Chinese aren't budging (gee, who could have seen that coming?), your new plan is to crank up the American propaganda machine....take all the hate that is bouncing around in the Trump era, and direct it toward China?
Start a real Cold War with China, and once again, do it without one single US ally in tow? That's your advice?
Let's focus a little of our Russophobia on the real threat to their south.
The rest of E Asia is looking for an ally to stand with against China.
Re: The Nation's Financial Condition
Just like the Unionists and the Libs have been telling you for 50 years. You should have been voting Dem all this time...you could have kept Clinton and the sell-out Dems out of office.
No. No, they don't. China has plenty of other countries to trade with....they'll move to other markets just as we will. We better hope this doesn't push them closer to Putin.
Remember, no one in the EU or elsewhere are fighting a trade war with China. So Trump left China all kinds of trading options, instead of getting a coalition together first.
We've lived in peace with China for hundreds of years. They're not our enemy unless we CHOOSE to make them our enemy. We're within a hair of making them our enemy. Don't pretend that you don't see that.
If that was remotely true, Trump should have gone to them first, don't you think?
The least they could do is buy our agricultural products to keep more American farmers from offing themselves.

So basically what a fan is saying is, the theft of our IP and innovations is okie dokie by him, or dead Americans due to Chinese fentanyl flooding our shores is just swell. Just look the other way cause we can't rock the status quo trade boat!...despite China's despicable acts. Not to mention their expanding military exploits. Help me with this one aF. For months (maybe even years) you’ve been telling us Russia is a mere shell of its former self with so many financial problems we should care less about what they’re doing in Eastern Europe. Now are you saying they’ve got so many free rubles they’re going to make up for the trade China will lose with the US? What am I missing?

You totally miss the point being made; or completely agree that the current approach, USA acting alone with tariff's, entering into a Trade War with China is the best and only option.tech37 wrote: ↑Tue Aug 06, 2019 6:28 amSo basically what a fan is saying is, the theft of our IP and innovations is okie dokie by him, or dead Americans due to Chinese fentanyl flooding our shores is just swell. The only part that isn't WRONG is the identification of China's practices as requiring necessary reform. The Chinese have moved dramatically over the past 3 decades in reforming their practices, but not far enough. That's true.tech37 wrote: ↑Tue Aug 06, 2019 8:24 amCompletely wrong? But how we engage with them, how we 'persuade' them to reform further, carrots and sticks, has been grossly mismanaged by this Administration. If we want to pressure them (sticks) we need to have cohesive economic alliances and trading partners acting in concert to place such pressures on China. But in Trump's constant focus on rejecting anything and everything his predecessors worked for, his ego needs to prove he's the 'big man in the room', his fawning over dictators, he's destroyed those alliances, undermined the world's confidence in the US' word and integrity in international relations.
Unfortunate, but true.

But ok, you draw the line at economics. Me too.
I just don't think we need a 'war', trade or otherwise, and if we do have one it's really, really stupid to have destroyed our international alliances and trust.

You are all forgetting about militaries, and focusing on trade only, as if one has nothing to with the other. I haven't a clue as to why. How much more difficult would our lives get if Putin and China got more comfortable with one another because China is looking for new places to sell its goods?
