Right. Omar doesn't understand what she's messaging. ..MDlaxfan76 wrote: ↑Sun Mar 17, 2019 3:29 pmReally, she's "immune from critique"???
Why are we even talking about it then?
She caught a ton of flak from the Dems, including Leader Pelosi.
She's on a short string. I dunno about "moron & hater". I'm concerned about whether she really understands the tropes she played into. She's certainly being confronted over them! The question will be whether she learns from this, finds common cause with those who have suffered anti-semitism and Islamaphobia, and yet finds a way to be a critic of support for the Netanyahu government policies. Yeah, give her a chance.
But not years and years of chances like the GOP gave King, like they give Trump daily.

The GOP abandoned King & tried to primary him. They removed him from committees so he doesn't get any tv time to further embarass the party.
Pelosi put ACO, Omar, & Tlaib on prominent committees so they could generate inflammatory video clips, but their bomb throwing is producing collateral damage blowback. She needs to murder board their talking point readings before she puts them before the cameras.

You're creating a strawman. You're channeling Joe McCarthy (he was a (R) too). You didn't even bother to ask if I now, or ever supported King.
And the GOP and you are going crazy about two Muslim women and one Hispanic woman who just arrived in Congress. Appointed to committees by, uh oh, another woman. Who you are now suggesting control them... Pelosi should pull Omar from the foreign affairs committee, like the GOP did for all of King's committee assignments. It's obvious GOP leadership wants King gone. Like you, Dem leadership is protecting & enabling Omar, with their watered down resolution which Omar claims as a victory -- she still doesn't acknowledge her antisemitic rhetoric.

Yes, people can be 'bad' for their thoughts. what if it's merely a thought and no action?
can we call people "bad" for simply having thoughts?
alternatively, are black nationalists then bad people?
what about this one (a verbalized thought): "Israel has hypnotized the world, may Allah awaken the people and help them see the evil doings of Israel."

We get it.
I'm going to be plenty tough on Omar after she's had a chance to learn and grow. I've been a 15 year board member of the leading group in the US in interfaith dialogue, founded 30 years ago to combat religious intolerance most specifically anti-semitism, and "where difference is a force for good". I helped move the organization from Christian Jewish dialogue to embrace the same process with Islam, and we've made slow, but important strides.
I've watched people learn and grow as they became exposed to the beauty of other religious backgrounds and grew more aware of their prior biases and misunderstandings. I've learned and grown through this exposure.
Omar needs to grapple with this. I'll give her a chance.

The far left pro Palestinian folks I've met over the years (mostly in Ann Arbor) are very, very precise about the words they use.
These Jewish insults are intentional. And they don't want to hear that they're part of the problem.

The first I learned of King's record was when GOP leadership punished him. Fine with me.
Not worthy of my comment. GOP leadership did the right thing.
Omar has yet to be held accountable by Dem leadership for her antisemitic rhetoric. No committee assignments rescinded. A resolution that was so watered down that she voted for it & is holding it up as a victory. She showed no sincere contrition.
Maybe you should invite her on a retreat with you.
