Dip&Dunk wrote: Fri Aug 19, 2022 7:19 am At the end of the day, lacrosse is won on the field.

The great teams have great teams.

But if you have to break it down, great FO’s keep great middies off the field (and then the rules get changed), great goalies don’t care who is shooting, great attackers make middies jobs easier, great defenses slow down (don’t stop) great offenses.
The really great middies face-off and play both ways. Rare, but dominating.

Hate that slow-down, positional substitution. Anathema to the free-flowing game I played and loved.

Want that slow shite? Play fool(foot)ball and be done with it.
Was there honestly anyone better at that in the modern era than Jon Reese?
I'm a huge Jon Reese fan.
And there are a handful who were very good. Good enough to be a HM or second team AA.
But the only one I can think of that might have a claim is Ryan Wade:

c'mon kram. wade took a few faceoffs and scored a couple points a game.

reese had like a million and was better than peak gary one year, yale all-time points guy, starting middle linebacker, was all over 2 fields:
https://twitter.com/LaxFilmStudy/status ... 99hAg&s=19
and tough as nails:
https://yaledailynews.com/blog/2021/03/ ... its-glory/

i'm biased and andy kraus was a reese wannabe, but as close as it comes. kyle harrison showed up as a throwback.
No mention of Kotz? Wasn't he (arguably) the best middle who faced off.... of all time?
ha! don't remember how much he faced off, maybe plenty? he didn't do it much when squared up against or with locally for a couple years. he was excellent.

reese had the chance to play against once. the original caller mentioned all 3... faceoff, both ways, including d. that's what i remember from that day (and watching him play the following year). seeing him there in front of you constantly, and all over the place.

Kotz was Syracuse's main faceoff option. And he faced off in both 86 and 90 for Team USA. Or at least he did for all the games I have/have seen. In college, he floated around 50%.....more than enough to warrant keeping him a the X, as half the time, you have some Fogo trying to defend.....Brad Kotz.

I've only seen him in two games. Can't imagine that he was much fun to play against.

Here's one of his games....

And?... so now they must be a Yank? Please specify... i thought this had to do with what player would you build your "dream team" around.

Currier please... despite his place of origin.

Also, when you're an alum of a college team that's comprised of 99.9% Canadians, it's not an issue. Lax is lax is lax...

Sorry.....I was just making a bad Dad joke that didn't land. Yes...why would anyone care what country lacrosse players are from?

Didn't see Currier enough to comment one way or another...hence the bad joke.

Yep, it was that bad. So bad that you're asking yourself, "how is that, in any way, a joke?"

Mea culpa. ;)

no one plugged or liked currier more than me.

but a friendly reminder needs to be posted that reese scored 82 goals. in one year. from the midfield. in addition to everything else.

No doubt Reese was great and we're comparing different eras.

Good to see you back around in these here parts, tech, it didn't go unnoticed that we hadn't seen you in quite awhile.

sure, maybe, but currier doesn't score 82 goals in any era? and nobody did that in any era except reese.

currier was 3 way because anything he was around was a gb. offense, faceoff and gbs elsewhere. no defense, but nobody nowadays does both ends great at the same time. he was a bit sloppy on turnovers for this era if i had a nick on him. but still amazing how he comes up with everything. if i have just one game to watch on a summer weekend, i watch waterdogs.

There’s plenty on Brad Kotz out there on his days at Syracuse.

But also, in my opinion, Kotz and Mike French (among others)
made a great team in the early days of the Philadelphia Wings,
drawing in the crowds, playing a crowd pleasing style of
indoor lacrosse.
That franchise lasted almost 30 years.

And remember on the 2018 Team Canada Currier played ssdm and took most face-off wings. At Princeton he wasn’t a bad face-off man although Petro might still have a slight objection to his technique.
