They play in a tough league and shouldn’t shy away from good OOC games. Harvard played UVA, got blitzed, and had gotten better.

Agreed. That first game against a better team, the ball moves faster, their goalie feels like a brick wall, and they seem to move effortlessly.

Then your next game out, your own team’s skills are that much better.

DC has been playing ACC teams for a while. A random check showed UNC and Duke in 2010 (DC beat Cornell that year, one year after Cornell's appearance in the national championship game), Maryland (then an ACC team) in 2005; DC won that game, 7-6.

There's no doubt which team was better, bigger, faster and more aggressive from the first whistle today. However Dartmouth will never make major improvements if it only plays the likes of Siena and Holy Cross OOC. Since 2015, its OOC opponents have included Ohio State ('15 and '22), ND ('15), BU ('18 and '19), Denver ('16), UVA ('18) and UNC ('17 and '23). It lost all of those games but beat Michigan on the road in 2016 so it's not a foregone conclusion that tough OOC opponents are automatic losses and provide no growth opportunities. I'm sure that the program has benefitted (set a high bar for players, increased visibility and recruiting) by challenging itself against that kind of competition.

As of last evening, according to some closer, prognosis looks more positive than not, given Buddy's 'toughness', but prayers needed.
