Not having a dog in the fight, the wails about UVA "falling behind" are absurd.

UVA has 3 5 star recruits and a few 4 star recruits in the 2022 class, and the 2021 class is very good as well. And it can recruit a transfer very selectively to fit a need. I think UVA has a good blend of "can't miss" recruits, and those that may not be a big name coming out of HS, but fit the culture, athletics style and needs, and are willing to work their way up towards PT. I am sure most fans wish that their schools had UVA's supposed "problems".

While the defending NC may have a few question marks—goalie, ssdm depth, second midfield—they should be ranked bad high as one and no lower than five preseason. Recruiting is not now nor will be in the foreseeable future a problem.

Seriously, when has UVAs roster not been loaded? Even Ace Adam’s last few years the players were there. Doms final years maybe ? Credit Lars and the staff but the players have always come to Charlottesville. Also it always a nice blend from different areas.

For what it’s worth, UVA lost to Team USA, 8-7.

Great job UVA. So the “
Best players in the world “ lost to the DIV1 champs by a goal? Usa. -and international lax is a dog and pony show. You could have 4–5 USA teams w similar results.

It means that they could have 4 or 5 USA teams. And, the level is not much higher then top10 Div1 lacrosse. Virginia is a great program no slight on them.

Team USA would destroy any college team in an actual competitive game that meant something. Just like the Jacksonville Jaguars would destroy Alabama and the Washington Wizards would beat Duke or Kentucky by 80 if they wanted to.

Too much Cronyism in the sport. Too many guys working together to make a buck. Everyone knows everyone in the sport. Football, basketball and soccer, for example, are more democratic and more of a meritocracy. I am waiting on Paul to eventually run the National team program.

FWIW, my view on the results over the weekend is that the PLL has created an environment where pro lacrosse players need to. maintain higher levels of conditioning into older playing ages. I'm not sure that the MLL ever accomplished this. With regard to Team Canada, it had a more youthful roster, and a lot more box players. Perhaps it's easier for such a national team to prevail over a collegiate team than over a more seasoned team USA who's more used to defending box payers.

Anyway, hats off to UVA for a great effort against extremely challenging opponents.

a continent of uva fans concerned about falling behind duke and others.
UVA 2021 class was good, anyone would want it . Their next few classes have 4 top kids and you know more will arrive.

Im pointing out how well they have done as well with recruits who were not even in top fifty. Top twenty recruits do matter but it's also how a coach puts the puzzle together in their approach as you well know.
Totally agree.
If it was 30 years ago I'd might have some concern, too much talent out there today to rely on someone else's ranking system. Out of 45 players on the roster you're looking for the right 18-23 players that actually play in a game. Five Star recruits and All American honors is not a beta of 1. Additionally, you need SSDM's and players to embrace being on the Scout, players who are rarely five star recruits coming out high school. Finally is it 2024? when we finally cycle through all those with an extra year of eligibility due to Covid. In Lars I trust.

Um, it was a scrimmage for both right? Kinda hard to draw any conclusions from a scrimmage.

According to thesabre, a Catamount is going to be a Cavalier. If true the move from U of V to UVA will provide the defending NC with a potential means of filling the hole created by the loss of Bertrand.

Apparently for the ‘23 season, not for ‘22. Nice addition for the Hoos - he’s an excellent midfielder.

JJ Levandowski transferred (did he even enroll at SU) to UVM. McConvey is the UVM player transferring for 2023.
