Also his GPA, while good, but not great, MAY preclude admission to an Ivy. He is a terrific player, but it's nice to see that he is making a decision based on 40 years not 4 (now 2). Remember, this is second hand info, but I thought I'd mention it. I don't know him, but I do know that his coaches, both hs and college hold him in high regard.
This topic is getting ridiculous. His grades are nobody's business. This is not Kawhi Leonard becoming a free agent, this is a college student picking a school that he wants to attend.
The thread was ridiculous the minute it started, tore just coming around now? But fun.
New call, Avenzato, gray and Munro are all going to Syracuse. It’s all over
syracuse does lead the league in attackmen transfers.

Update earlier today from College Crosse and Chris Jastrzembski on Chris Gray.
They have heard that Duke, Cornell, Johns Hopkins and North Carolina are in the mix. Plus Syracuse has offered him the famed #22 jersey for the next two seasons.
No mention of other Ivy League schools, including the early poll leader, Brown.
So far, definite impact on the Patriot League competitive landscape since BU will have a hard time filling his shoes in terms of points.

i keep thinking someone's gonna come out and tell us they've been pulling our leg all this time on the 22 thing.

Brown was mentioned for a few reasons. Biggest is that his dad is evidently a Brown Alum. I have been told that. Could be all wrong. Aside from the sentimentality, in a real sense it affects his transfer application as a legacy. And it's big step up from B.U. in terms of academic reputation. Which we heard was the driver.

He would also presumably be a big contributor, in what should be a pretty fast moving Daly offense. How far does Brown surge ahead? Not sure if Cornell, Penn, Princeton, and Yale are sitting still. It might be fun team to play with. Gets back to his lacrosse ambitions, I guess.

Brown is a very reasonable distance to see a lot of his home games, for his parents. And....a lot of his road games.

The thing that did not fit is that Brown work to to get to the NCAAT, let alone be playing on the weekend. Again, if it's a factor.

Who knows? Wish him very well in his next two college years. Not going to get critical about any of his options. He obviously has his reasons for wanting a change. Best of luck!

Jastrzembski is a Syracuse grad and homer. He’s pretty out of the loop on this one and clearly not on Long Island... I’d put far more weight into your poll than his reporting.

He's most definitely a Cuse homer but by the same token I'm assuming he's pretty plugged into what goes on up north so if Gray has reached out to the Orange or vice versa, he'd be the one to know about it.

I've long thought Duke made the most sense from a lacrosse and academic perspective. Great school, great chance at a Final Four or better and he'd slide right in as that team's quarterback on offense for the next two years. I'd love to say Hopkins fits the bill too but would they really want to risk messing with Epstein's development as the future of that team? Also not sure how he'd mesh with Teat at Cornell. So of the schools he listed I would say Duke is the favorite and I suppose I could see UNC as a possibility as well. They sure could use Gray.

Duke and UNC are too far away from Long Island (Wading River, NY). Syracuse offers a great lacrosse tradition, but is that school really much of an academic upgrade over BU? Cornell? Please. :?

Think it’s pretty much settled ... Chris Gray is headed to Johns Hopkins. ;)

More relevant to be plugged into what is going on on the North Shore than up north...

Surely they mean to offer him a chance to prove he is worthy of #22. Let him practice against Mellon or even Kennedy a few times before handing out that jersey.

Of course, I am hoping the Doc has some inside knowledge, but I fear '16 makes too much sense.

I certainly understand the logic around Duke, but other than Kyle Rowe whose brother was on the team I don't think Danowski has ever taken an undergrad transfer in his entire time at Duke. And Rowe was a specialist (FOGO) making the chemistry fit easy. Danowski's big transfer pipeline has been with graduate students. He also usually makes a home for his redshirts. If that's the case next year then probably both Carpenter and Lowrie are returning which means every single offensive player other than Smith will be back with a loaded freshman class coming in (including an attackman from Canada who is the #8 ranked recruit). I think taking undergrad transfers in a position like attack can create a strain on recruiting at a place like Duke where the top recruits are coming in expecting to play. Again, it doesn't appear to be Danowki's approach either and he could probably get just about any undergrad transfer he wants. All of that being said, it wouldn't surprise me to see Gray at Duke, but it would surprise me to see him at Syracuse or UNC.

Sean Cerrone transferred to Duke after 2 seasons at Villanova. Gray would instantly be Duke’s #1 attackman and shouldn’t negatively impact recruiting if he was to go. They understand there’s going to be stiff competition for playing time.

Good catch on Cerrone. Interesting thing about him is that he went from being an offensive midfielder at Villanova to being primarily an SSDM at Duke.

Danowski has taken underclass transfers in the past. Friend of our son’s was the D3 Liberty League ROY, then the POY. 6’3” 230 lb middle with wheels who was a contributor for Duke. Will McKee. Twin brother played at Duke for four years. Will transferred in as a junior.

We have another family friend who played for Dino, and his roommate/teammate the last two years was a transfer. Can’t recall who off the top of my head.

Just think the statement that he does not take undergrad transfers is not totally accurate. Rare? Sure.

Is Chris Gray, 1st Team AA as a soph, “rare?” Think he makes any team better. And any coach at that level, and staff should be able to make it work.

I am sure that he’s weighing a lot of options. Good for them for keeping a lid on it. Best of luck! L

In any event even if you've never taken a transfer in your life, if a kid coming off a 100-point season says he wants to play for you, you listen. Every coach in D1 whose team has a halfway decent change at landing this kid who is not at the very least putting some feelers out there is not doing his job.

I believe that HF16 is on point.

Not your “average transfer.” I suspect that every program and every coach would want Chris Gray. Regardless of their transfer history. Some exceptions. A team like IVA is loaded and young. Some of the Ivies have not been in the athletic transfer business. But you know that some coaches are pushing their AD’s....”if Cornell, Penn AND YALE......”

Seems to want a school with a top quality academic reputation and a top tier lacrosse program. List gets smaller.

Should be interesting. Admire that it’s been kept so quiet.
Best of luck to Chris.
