Good luck to Idaho women. Two of eleven maternal-fetal specialists have already left and according to one of those, five of the remaining nine are soon to follow:

SO that means they only were only staying for the money in abortions?

YA, as I mentioned in a post yesterday, you've got to expand what you look at when you're on-line - especially if you believe a particular article or video might be wrong. If you had for this particular post, you'd have found numerous articles and videos that mention the specific reason for these doctors leaving is because they don't want to have the high probability that some Idaho prosecutor will prosecute them for performing some mom's-life saving or uterus saving procedure (e.g. D&C) that the Idaho elected officials have, in their infinite wisdom, determined is an abortion procedure.

But you might have already known that and your comment was just made to be a sarcastic smart-a.

On a technical matter a D&C can hardly be considered an abortion. The fetus is already deceased and it becomes necessary for the mothers health to remove it from the uterus. I have no idea how this procedure is considered an abortion.

Wife had a miscarriage on an unplanned Third (right after I quit a job in 2016). We elected not to have the dead thing removed as it will come naturally though that s**t is harrowing to see-I had to deal with it first hand a week or two later after if was gone (we’re talking no heartbeat in second ultrasound, heartbeat was in the 80s BPM in first one and they didn’t at much but seemed like everyone knew but didn’t want to
Confirm until we came back). So in certain cases it may be a health issue but we were advised that it generally isn’t one.

... if it is early weeks (first trimester - roughly) it is in most cases not necessary. Still it is recommended as a prophylactic to put the issue to bed while a physician is present. It is STANDARD OF CARE to have a D&C, most insurance companies cover it at all times.

Very much early, first ultrasound, can’t recall maybe 4-8 weeks. We actually have/had pretty good coverage but it wasn’t covered or fully covered I recall. Wasn’t a money decision we just wanted to get out of the drs office at that point I think. They didn’t push it or suggest there was anything meaningful health risk to us. This is about 6-7 yrs ago now as the kids were in the 1-4 range. Don’t think we had bad care but that was the experience.

... like I said in that time frame the probability of complications is very low. We had a D&C when my wife lost one after two months. I don't recall whether she was given a choice or not. First pregnancy - probability of losing fetus goes way up.

It is definitely a traumatic experience for most couples.

Without the traditional adjective laden verbose colorful description FFG occasionally employs, let me just say I saw it in the toilet and had to flush it as my wife is sobbing. Go with the D&C!

We had our first two “clean” ironically, if you could call them issues, the boy was sideways coming out so we pulled it one week before schedule and couldn’t do natural birth and because the first was C section they refused (pretty much) to do the second natural which came two weeks ahead of calendar due to lower fluids but both came out 7-9lbs and otherwise fine. It was that one that didn’t work out.

Sorry you and your wife were placed in that situation, FFG. My ex dropped clots during week 8 of her first pregnancy and until we were able to see her Ob-Gyn we were devastated thinking she had lost the baby. Fortunately he's now a terrific 38 year old with a family of his own.

To circle back to the thread's topic: Now imagine that every woman, and in fact every couple, in Idaho and other states with these archaic laws now has to go through that same emotional situation you did because their physician is fearful that someone who has no business sticking their nose into that couple's situation has defined the use of a medically justified D&C is an abortion. Insanity.

Yeah I’ve never been an anti-abortion person, just know what the uglier side of it looks like. And seeing what started and stopped up close is not fun. I find this whole debate over controlling a persons choices in this very specific framework or circumstance (women/pregnancy) to be absurd. Everyone should be able to make their own choice. It’s a joke regardless of religious beliefs, if those are even the motivating factor half the time or not.

Sister struggled having their first. Second came easier. I’m glad you guys got through it of course as well.

My best friend did it voluntarily a year or two ago. Not totally sure why others than he has a daughter in college from his first wife and two that are early middle school with current but it’s not like he’s rocking 16 and Mormon or whatever the reality show is. He gave me a reason but it’s possible he just prefers “raw dogging it”
