Yes.
Also, the same high school as Andrew Whipple, a Terps star attackman from 1995-1998. Whipple is currently the head coach of Pittsford up in Section V NY.

Highly regarded Penn comes to College Park Saturday. I like the 2-0 Terps, who came back to beat Richmond after forcing OT in a game which the Spiders seemed to have won late, to take the Quakes, who have yet to play.

Picking the Terps over the Quakers when they have already played two games is a real gamble. :)

Penn will be tough game for the Terps. Last year Penn’s Gallagher went 21-27 in FO. Our top guy is gone and current FO guys are struggling. Also Maryland won in overtime last year. I expect a close game.

I think Tills will have more film on Penn’s knowns and Penn has two of Maryland games to use to game plan.

Morris and McNaney would be starting at other programs. Cannot see either watching another year from the bench. Sad

This is true with many players at top programs. Competition is fierce and you can generally earn playing time with hard work and improvement, however goalie is obviously different than midfield, where there are multiple opportunities to get some PT and prove yourself. Other factors that can mitigate lower PT and keep a player from transferring include academic excellence of the school and networking opportunities, a strong team culture that helps develop you as a person, fierce practices and scout team work to appeal to a competitive nature, and a coach that recognizes and rewards hard work.

They probably won't decide to transfer till May, so this discussion can wait.
McNaney might be red-shirting which would put him 2 years behind Brandau.

Inside Maryland Sports is reporting that Long and Rahill are day-to-day ahead of the UPenn game. Welding is out for the week. Ubriaco is out for the season. Shockey is healthy and expected to play.

What other programs are you certain they would be starting for?

I don't want to see McNaney transfer either bc I think he'll be a great player, but you play the best goalie you have and Brandau has been very good so far. He's also only a sophomore. If guys choose to transfer that's cool, they gotta do what's best for the, it's not "sad." Maryland's got a good goalie, they'll be fine.

Looking at the Big Ten and ACC teams they all care a min of 4 except for Duke that has 3. Last time Maryland started a freshman goalie was Brian Phipps. He only started because the other two goalies were injured. When Alford became healthy he took over. Think that was late April. The following year he split time and even differed to the other goalie if it was a tough game and he was doing well.

All top goalie recruit have red-shirted their freshman year for Maryland since then. Would be very surprised if McNaney did not know there would be a strong possibility he would red-shirt.

Will have to see how the season plays out for Morris.
