While I root for the Hens, I don't think that the Stags have played their best yet (having just turned around from an all-out game again Providence). The rematch should be interesting.

Good luck to the Hens.
I agree that Fairfield will get stronger as the season progresses. They have a very talented offensive unit. But I do think Baxter is going to have to recruit his own guys on defense. It may take a couple years to figure that out. His starting close defense is made up of two graduate transfers from St. Lawrence and Mercyhurst and a fifth year senior. That seems like a bit of a patchwork for a second-year coach.
Great !

I hope the people who vote in the polls watch the Delaware game. The Hens' attack is a good as any in the country. UD should rank in the top 15 this week.

The portal could pay dividends to CAA type schools if some of the big boys have rosters too big after COVID. Kids want to play, why sit on the bench at a blue chip program when you can be a starter at a mid major and make a name for yourself? Goes both ways though, some great players from smaller programs have been poached to the ACC/Big.

Have heard in D1 circles Off. Coordinator Steve Boyle is a well respected / good recruiter. Voelker always has attracted good offensive talent there and seems to have a good connection to British Columbia.

Delaware looks like the top of the class until Umass starts?

Gonna give some luv to a program trying their best but with each step forward something hits them: Fairfield, not sure people noticed but their returning goalie broke him shoulder in a non lax situation (read: sling) and is out for the year.

In comes a true freshman, who, as you know, did not play a lot last year, as did anyone else.

As he becomes acclimated to D1 shooting/pace/abilities I can only think their defense will get better which will help offensively too.

With basically a new coach, this is a team that will improve faster than most as the year progresses.

Baxter didn’t wait,
he got his recruits in right away, which is good,
the freshman goalie is one of Baxter’s recruits.

Tom Slate made the color call in the game Saturday,
TU & DU,

real knowledgable guy, head coach at Downingtown
East for years, MLL, NLL, I think he’s coaching for
Chris Bates at Episcopal now,

seems to really know CAA teams, hopefully Lax Sports
Network can bring him in for CAA coverage commentary.

CAA Announces Weekly Awards – March 9

RICHMOND, Va. (March 9, 2021) – Delaware junior attackman Tye Kurtz is this week’s winner of the Colonial Athletic Association (CAA) Men’s Lacrosse Player of the Week, while Drexel freshman attack Sean Donnelly is the CAA Rookie of the Week honoree.

PLAYER OF THE WEEK:
Tye Kurtz, Delaware
Junior | Attack | Puslinch, Ontario/Bishop MacDonnell
Tye Kurtz tallied the most points by a Blue Hen since John Grant in 1999, when he posted five goals and six assists in Delaware’s 17-9 victory over Fairfield on Saturday in the CAA opener for both teams. The 11 points is tied for the all-time CAA single game points scored list and the six assists is tied for third on the CAA all-time single game list.

ROOKIE OF THE WEEK:
Sean Donnelly, Drexel
Freshman | Attack | Bradenton, Florida/IMG Academy
Sean Donnelly made his Drexel debut a memorable one, as he had four goals and three assists in the Dragon’s win against Towson on Saturday. He scored Drexel’s first goal of the season and three more in the second half of the team’s season and CAA opener. The seven points is the most by a Drexel freshman since the school joined the CAA.
(2nd year freshman - actually, ties Robert Church)

There is,
but they screwed up the video,
only the 1st quarter is viewable,

I blame NBC Sports Philly,
I believe it was their video feed 👎

Thanks anyway. I was hoping to catch the fourth quarter.

This weekend has some interesting games in the CAA.

Hofstra vs Towson is going to be a fun game to watch. Can the Towson defense slow down the high-powered Pride offense? It'll be really interesting to see what Nadelen does to smother Ryan Tierney specifically. Last week the Tigers packed it in on defense and gave Drexel anything they wanted outside 12 yards. Brennan did a nice job for the most part on the long-range shots. I am not sure that works against Tierney who could be the most deadly shooter in college lacrosse. When he gets his hands free inside of 15 yards, watch out. For Towson I think this is going to be a lot like last weekend’s game against Drexel.Same outcome I believe - Hofstra 12-10 in a tight game.

Delaware vs Drexel will be another great game. Drexel has a lot of weapons on offense with Mailman, Donnelly, Genord and Bowering. They miss Matt Varian at X who was able to set up some bunnies in the crease over the past four years for Bowering and Co. This game has all the makings of a shootout with the Hens attack clicking on all cylinders. I would think 16-13. Delaware, of course.

The UMass vs Fairfield game I am afraid will be fairly one-sided. The Minutemen are going to come out like caged…well, Gorillas. Gabriel Procyk, Jeff Trainor, Chris Connelly and the Tobin Brothers will light up the scoreboard at Garber. The Stags porous defense doesn’t stand a chance. Watch for corpulent sophomore goalie Matt Knote in this game. He is probably the best tender in the league. Gorillas 16 Stags 8.

Should be a fun weekend. Don't place any bets with this inside information. I have been known to be VERY wrong.

8-5 Fairfield at the half,
Lafayette is a lot more solid than I’d expected
lots of freshmen and sophomores playing for them.

Stags defense is brutal. So many wide open shots.

A lot more solid effort from Lafayette than I’d seen in
the recent past,
still,
a really difficult schedule for them, Lehigh, Bucknell,
Loyola - twice each,
but,
I suspect they won’t be losing games by 10-12, letting
the games get out of hand in the 1st quarter.

A W for the Stags, which is all that really matters
right now, 13-11.

I’m not worried about Matt Varian, the coaches actually
signalled it looks like now, that Varian might not return
which is why they brought in Sean Donnelly.

Its the midfield I’m not sure of, which is why the Dragons
are keeping Ryan Genord at midfield instead of moving him to attack, there are some players that could give them minutes and a few points at midfield, but will the coaches play a shorter bench, or will they roll out some other players at midfield ?

You aren’t mistaking him with a sean Donnelly who went to Delbarton and then a Pt year before Hobart are you? He was IL ranked, maybe 5-6yrs ago.

no - i coached this Donnelly on Patriot Lacrosse, a NJ based club team. i know it isn't impossible for out of staters to be playing on a club team based in a different state, i just haven't seen it with Patriot.

Ah got it. Certainly a common name just know our Donnelly was a bit of a stud himself of you recall him at all from early last decade when Delbarton was cruising. He would’ve ended up elsewhere except for two tough knee injuries in high school and Coach Wyne at Sals is a Hobart alum.
