It is true that about a third of Americans don't believe that man has ever evolved, no matter the science.

I say that as a voter who thinks it's actually important to make policy decisions that are scientifically based, not impose wishful thinking stupidity in the name of "religion" for actual rational analysis and decision making.

Which isn't to say that I don't think that one's values of treating others as one would want to be treated, derived from religious practice and faith, shouldn't inform public policy decisions. Not dogma, actual values of doing good by others. Those values can be found in every major faith.
