Really sad all around. JT is too good at his craft to not rebound, I for one am rooting for him. My skirting around the edges of the law (good and bad) tell me that he does have some legal recourse. I do hope he gets paid and finds a gig at a place where he can help score 25 on Amherst. That article is scathing. On all fronts. The school's bungled handling of the studewnt disciplines, the terrible search process, and of course the final outcome for Thompson. Biddy scapegoated Thompson in the pursuit of an agenda, and fired him without cause. He deserves an apology at the very least and is likely due a legal settlement. Now his career and future has been negatively effected and the course has been negatively altered.
I hope Thompson is pursuing a legal resolution to get a share of that $2B endowment.
But to say "get a share of that $2B endowment" just shows peoples lack of understanding. Endowments are built off restricted gifts, they cannot be used for legal fees to make up for an error by the pres. Also, laws restrict how much of a draw one can take off the endowment, 5% being the bottom, and up to 10% at the top, although most non-profits are really hesitant to dip that far into the reserves.
