Kenosha County Sheriff David Beth said in an Aug. 28 news conference that the armored vehicle shown in the video is one of 19 being used in the area but wasn’t from his department. He noted people have a Second Amendment right to bear arms to protect “their property,” but local authorities had not asked them to come.

It is unclear from the video which law enforcement agency the vehicle belonged to. 

“The comments that whoever was in that armored vehicle said, that does not reflect what we here in Kenosha are asking for,” Beth said.

Beth had initially responded to the incident, on Aug. 26, by saying police in Kenosha “would toss a water to anybody.”

This illustrates another factor that has to be considered when second guessing police tactics. In flash riot situations like Kenosha, you have police from multiple jurisdictions, with different training, procedures & protocols, all trickling into a dynamic situation. The only standardization might be what they learned in a state run police academy that multiple jurisdictions use. County Sheriff Beth said they were getting help from all over the state. Some smaller counties only sent 1 deputy, but that represented 1/3 of their patrol force. In the press confs, I was favorably impressed with both the County Sheriff & the city Chief of Police.

A case where a black man is not only mistakenly arrested for allegedly being in possession of a stolen winning lottery ticket, which he legally purchased and attempted to cash, but the police failed to comply to their department directive to not apprehend citizens for low level crimes during the coronavirus. The citizen offered to drive himself to the police station, but that wasn’t good enough for the officers who couldn’t obey a simple department directive.

The officers made mistakes.
The Speedway manager makes mistakes identifying the stolen lottery tickets.
Now both will pay big and it’s probable that nothing will be learned a week from now.

That's a tough one. Realistically, from a policing point of view, how do you prevent an incident like that ?
Not respond to a stolen property claim until it's been verified that the property was, in fact, stolen.
That's not practical. The Speedway manager put the police in a no win situation.
When Speedway reported the theft, did they include the stolen ticket numbers, so they could be accurately identified.
What's the sales clerk doing leaving all those ticket cards in a position from which they could be snatched ?
The falsely accused man deserves a big payday, primarily from Speedway & the Lottery.
The Lottery should pay because the police provide them casino security for gambling provided by min wage low skilled dealers.

Due to coronavirus, the officers were directed not to apprehend low level alleged crimes, like this. To quote the police chief Nicolas Bado, “the officers involved met probable cause to arrest Eric Martin based on the information they had at the time, in an ongoing effort to learn, reform, and grow, the department is seeing how they could have handled this differently.

“These are things that we’re looking to learn from and grow from moving forward and educate our officers to lead more in a manner that is in a de-escalation mindset,” Bado said.

The officers failed to follow instructions. You really want police officers that can follow instructions. Would you want an employee to brings back a normal brain or A B Normal brain?

In normal times, what police instruction would have averted this screwup ?
The abby normal brain was in the Speedway employee who misidentified the ticket as stolen property.

A Milwaukee church that sent a U-Haul filled with food and supplies to protesters in Kenosha, says it was seized and the people inside were arrested.

The Zao MKE Church says it filled the truck with a thousand dollars worth of food, band aids and fire extinguishers.

It was intercepted by authorities in Kenosha Wednesday and church leaders say they haven't been given an explanation.

"I have no idea how the police could interpret water, Gatorade, bags of chips and fire extinguishers as a threat. And the fact that even after seeing all of that they confiscated it and continued to proceed to arrest the driver and passenger is absolutely beyond me," said Rev. Jonah Overton.





Delusional right wingers objected to government mandates to close churches in order to prevent the spread of the trump virus. They said such a mandate violated separation of church and state. Because of that, they should raise just as big an objection to this form of McCarthyite repression.
